FDA warns of possible Haldol link to deaths. Bloomberg (9/18, Blum) reported, "A Johnson & Johnson drug used to treat psychotic disorders can cause heart complications and sudden death, especially when given intravenously or at higher- than-recommended doses, U.S. regulators said." According to the FDA, "There are at least 28 reports of certain heart disorders, some leading to death, involving the intravenous use of the drug." Consequently, "Prescribing information for...Haldol (haloperidol) has been revised to include warnings of the side effects." The FDA warning requests that physicians "consider this new
risk information when making individual treatment decisions for their patients."
