Jennifer update....Friday 9/9/05   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #829 of 1698 |
Before I get into the update, please know that I am amazed at the number of
emails that I have received from wonderful people letting me know just how
much they care and that they are there for us. I am so very humbled. Thank
you so much for your thoughts and prayers for Jennifer today. I need to ask
you to please continue for a little while longer. I am going to start working
on the individual replies to the emails tomorrow, but please know I have read
them and appreciate them more than words can ever say. Thank you!

We didn't get the news we expected today. The Endocrinologist wants to do
some more tests before doing the biopsy. He drew some blood today, too. He
did determine that she has an hyperactive thyroid and he also told us there
are a little more than half a dozen 2 cm or larger tumors in her neck area. He
said they weren't sure exactly how many but he knows there are more than 6
so he wants to do another ultrasound himself so he can look more carefully
than the technician who did the one she had the other day. He does not want to
do the biopsy until he has some of the test results back. He also wants to
do a type of test that involved Jennifer taking this pill and going back the
next morning to have tests done to see how much of the dye in the pill was
absorbed and where. Supposedly that will help determine if it is cancer, too.
Also, he said since the tumors are 2 cm, he will probably recommend removing
them surgically even if it is not cancer, just as a precaution.

He did give us some very good news, though. He said if it is cancer that
all would need to be done is just surgery to remove the tumors and that would
get rid of the cancer 100%. It is not a type of cancer that grows or spreads.
I am sure he knows what he is talking about, but after we left and started
thinking and talking about it, Jennifer and I both wonder if it doesn't
spread, how come she has at least 6 tumors, and probably more? How or why if
it
doesn't spread and if it is cancer, where did those tumors come from? We were
in shock when we saw him and I was horrible at trying to ask all of the
questions we had. I just could not think of them. I am going to write them
down
for the next time we see him. He also suggested holding off on seeing the
neurologist until after the biopsy because the headaches may be related to the
stress and tension of worrying about cancer, so that is one doctor at least
that we don't have to see for now. She has lost about 12 pounds in the past
3 weeks since the really bad being sick started. I took her to the ER about
3 weeks ago with headache and they gave her IV meds that made her imagine
they were trying to kill her. It didn't stop the headache either.
One good point is I think we have finally stopped the diarrhea, for now at
least. She is still not eating solid foods and is nauseated almost all of the
time. She is really trying to drink gatorade and such though so she won't
get dehydrated again, which is also good.
We are supposed to hear back from the blood test that was done to detect
some types of cancer either Monday or Tuesday, and I will be sure to let you
know the results. Some of the blood work they did today is a repeat of what
was
done Wednesday just because he said he'd rather have it done in his clinic
rather than the hospital. Her white blood count is up, which could be caused
from many things. She is still having headaches, but they are not migraine
headaches. She has tried every migraine medicine on the market almost and
nothing has worked even a little bit. She is also having hormone issues, too.
I won't go into details, but her hormones are going haywire.

Anyway, this is the update for today's appointment. We are scheduled to go
back for the other tests and the biopsy on September 28 and September 29th.
I don't know why they are waiting so long, but he said they wanted to watch
the tumors between now and then to see what would happen. I don't know about
that either, but I really think he might know what he is talking about. He
seems very up to date on her issues, so that made us feel better.

I am off to bed, Valerie has an early morning softball tournament tomorrow -
they are playing 3 back to back games! If I don't get to bed we will be
late! :( I just wanted to let you know where we stand for now with Jennifer
and
also I wanted to tell you thank you! I will keep you posted as soon as we
have news.

Love and Hugs,
