Hi April, sorry to hear about your son! My daughter has CVS (5yrs
old). She gets episodes like clockwork every 7wks. Prior to this,
she was diagnosed with migraines, and also had a CAT scan. When her
migraine symptoms changed to the vomiting symptoms (also around 10 -
20 times an hour), the neurologist diagnosed CVS. IMO, it is without
doubt the correct diagnosis for her.
What I am trying to say though, is that he (the neurologist) said
that he feels that CVS is a "migraine variant". Like a stomach
migraine. I tend to agree with this assessment. Imogen has been
gettting migraines since she was around 3yrs, but looking back it may
even have been longer than that, but she was unable to articulate
herself properly. For the last year, the CVS has taken the
headache's place, but more recently (the last two episodes) it has
gone back to the migraine, and the last episode was quite "mild" by
comparison (eg. she had the migraine for about 3hrs and then was fine
- usually she gets the migraine and is down for the rest of the day
until the following morning when she wakes right as rain).
Another "pre symptom" Imogen gets is excessive yawning. In the hour
leading up to the episode, she yawns repeatedly over and over while
progressively getting paler and paler, and looking more and more
miserable.
Anyway, wanted to say that I am glad you got a diagnosis finally!
