I am new to this group and to CVS. We are currently ruling out
other things for my two children right now. A friend came across
the main website which linked me here. I am not sure what we are
looking at for my kiddos but many of the symptoms sure match what we
are experiencing. I have not been able to figure out any triggers
or cycles for these episodes.

On Tuesday, my 8 yo ds had a really bad stomach migraine/migraine
episode. I ended up taking him in to the ER because I did not know
what to do. His PCP told me to bring him into the clinic during one
of the episodes so he could see what one looked like. The roads
were icy and I was uncomfortable with the ride so I took him into
the ER. By the time we got there, he vomitted one last time and was
on the mend.

By the time he was seen in the ER, he looked great and was so
excited to be there (funny, I know!). The dr. just talked to him
about us about his symptoms and then called a ped. neurologist (that
does not take our insurance!) for the prodocal. We were given 2
prescriptions and sent home. I am really frustrated they did not do
a more thorough exam, have the ped. neurologist come in or have an
MRI or something. I am thinking... isn't there anything more they
can do to find out what is wrong?

I know one if for phenergan suppositories (for the nasea and
vomitting) and a nose spray for the migraine. I need to go pick
them up so I am not sure what the spray is yet. I was told the nose
spray also comes in a sublingual form to put under the tongue.
Since there is vomitting, the dr. said the nose spray would probably
be better.

My ds started with stomach aches when he was 22 mo. He had been
hospitalized for Strep Pneumonia. The strep had gone undiagnosed
for 2 months. After this, he would complain of stomach aches. I
talked to his PCP and was told children can have mystery stomach
aches that turn out to be nothing. At 5 my ds started to have
headaches with the stomach aches and sometimes just the stomach
aches. At 7 he started getting migraines instead of headaches.
Sometimes with a stomach ache.

Just after my son turned 8, he had a severe migrane with severe
stomach cramping and vomitting. I took him into a new PCP and was
told he had a stomach migraine. Never heard of that one before!
Since then, the episodes seem to be escalating and getting longer in
duration.

The episode would start out with him feeling blah. He would then
become real cuddly and cranky. This would turn into him saying he
has a headache. The headache would then turn into a migraine. The
migraine would turn into a severe stomach ache where he would cry
and scream in pain. We found if we gave him 7-up, he would throw up
for about an hour and then the episode would be done and within 30
min. he would be starving, severely thirsty and fine like nothing
happened. The episode would last for about 2 hours from start to
finish.

On Tuesday, I ended up in the ER with my ds. He started out as
usual saying he didn't feel well which turned into a migraine.
Lights, Sounds, touch, etc. would make it worse and he started to
walk around in a daze. He then ran to the bathroom to vomit but he
couldn't. I got some 7-up which did not seem to help this time, it
only made it worse. When he did vomit, it came out with intense
force that it scared him and me. He stayed on the bathroom floor
screaming and crying in pain in between bouts of vomitting. He was
as white as a ghost.

I called his PCP to find out what to do. The other ped. Dr. B was
in so I made her aware of what Dr. S had said. She heard him in the
background and said not to bring him in (the PCP is 45+ min. away)
but to get him to a neurologist close to me. I spent too much time
on the phone trying to find a ped. neurologist. None of them took
our insurance. I finally gave up and took him to the ER.

On the way to the ER, ds vomitted bile several times. This last
vomitting made him feel better and he seemed to be on the mend.
From start to finish, the episode lasted for more than 3 hours and
was a bit different from the previous episodes.

The differences -

Lasted longer
Forceful vomitting
The migraine seemed to be worse behind his left eye
He was sweating
He had a "hangover" that lasted for the rest of the day and part of
the next day. He had not had this before.

It is so bizarre that he can be in such intense pain, etc. and all
of a sudden it stops and within 30-60 min. it is like nothing
happened. I had migraines as a teen and they would last for days.
I never had a "hangover" from the migraines nor had vomitting with
them. These seem like classic migraines/stomach migraines with a
twist!

I must admit, I am pretty freaked out. I went online last night to
get info. for the Children's Hospital in our state. It is 2 hours
away. I will be making appointments with a neurologist, an
allergist and a gastrologist. Hopefully they can shed some light on
this. I will bring the info. I have on CVS.

Thank you all for "listening". I am so grateful for a place to get
info, encouragement and help. This e-mail is so long, I will write
another one about my dd. Both of them are so different with the
vomitting.

Terry
