Hi all,
My son, age 4, has CVS and autism. Of course, it started out as this
strange stomach flu thing. Except, as a mom, I know what stomach flu
is and this was NOT stomach flu. Thankfully for us, the doctor "on
call" at the hospital understood what CVS is and was able to prescribe
my son with cyproheptadine. (that's the short version) This lessened
the syptoms, vomiting, etc. but, of course, no cure. Right now, he
gets his episodes every 3 weeks and they last 1 full day (throws up
2-5 times). There still are episodes that last 3 days from time to time.
I am very aware of what cvs is and it is a truely horrible diagnosis
without any medicine. There is nothing worse than watching your child
becoming more and more dehydrated and deciding when to take him into
the hospital to get hooked up on the "water machine".
My son also has autism. So having both autism and CVS has been quite
challenging. My question for the group,....Is there anyone out there
who also has CVS and autism or have you ever heard of this combination
before? Suppossedly, autism and cvs aren't normally associated with
each other? I would greatly appreciate any info that anyone has on
this matter.
Thanks,
Susan
