Sorry, I had put that last reply to you in my outbox folder because I had to
run to the store. Was going to finish it when I returned only to learn that my
new mail system automatically sends post stored in the outbox without asking if
I want to edit them first. And I wasn't finished writing the post!
I'm wondering if Provigil isn't chemically similar to Strattera as far as
the dopamine target. Since Conor's been off Strattera since the last part of
March, I can't imagine it would still be affecting him but I suppose it's quite
possible. He stopped taking Provigil today and I'll be interested to see if
things improve from here. He's been on Zoloft, Topomax and Elavil since the
onset of CVS. I guess I need to take a second look at Lamictal too. It's a
newer drug for bipolar treatment. He was put on that because depakote can cause
weight gain and my son struggles to keep his weight down. I'm not sure if my
son's bipolar diagnosis is accurate either or if it isn't just another
manifestation of Tourettes or even connected to CVS. Who knows! But your
Strattera information was very interesting and helpful. Thank you so much.

Well, Anne, my son has had mild Tourette Syndrome and ADDw/h all his life. He
was also diagnosed with bi-polar late last year. His doctor put him on
Strattera last December and he had taken it until late March. We had seen no
results with it and stopped it. The doctor also started him on Lamictal in
January for bipolar which has helped his mood swings but not the problem of
feeling tired every morning. For that the doctor has given him some samples of
Provigil to try. He's been on that for about 10 days.

Linda,
My daughter is diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. We are not sure if htat is
an accurate diagnosis, but we do know she exhibits the behaviors typical of
someone suffering from bipolar. She was previously on Depakote, Abilify and
Strattera. Now, the key here is that the Strattera was just stared in mid to
late April. My daughter began vomiting May 10th. During out last hospitalization
(9 days ago), we discussed the possible effect of Strattera and how there is
another child, I believe in Chicago, that is vomiting non-stop, and that child
also started Strattera recently. We began to wean my daughter off of Strattera,
and completely removed Strattera last Saturday. My daughter was still vomiting
last week, however today is Wednesday and she has not vomiting since SUNDAY. She
vomited 27 times in 15 minutes. Then she slept. I had given her Zofran and she
puked one of them back out, but the other one remained in her stomach. She has
been fine since. Today will be the test, because we are going to church tonight
and it is an hour drive. I am anxious to see if she can make the trip without
vomiting again.
I am really pointing the finger at Strattera. Her vomiting has rapidly
decreased as the Strattera has left her system. She is doing better and better!
I believe it was the Stattera that triggered this intensely long cycle. I am
going to continue to document any changes.
What meds is your son on? The Strattera takes a while to get into your
system, which could explain why my daughter did not start to vomit immediately.

Anne, can you think of anything that started your daughter's episodes
again after a 4 year absence? That's such a shame. My 27 year old son has had
CVS with abdominal pain for almost 4 years. He'd be sick every couple of months
but from May 6 of this year he too has been sick almost every day. He has been
taking zofran for nausea which does, gratefully, prevent vomiting but it doesn't
generally prevent the extreme pain from starting. For that he has to take
Ultraset or Stadol. Unfortunately last summer he had been accused of a felony
he did not commit and for almost a year has been fighting it. On May 6 the
charge was finally dropped and, something like people who try to hold themselves
together through a crises and when it's all over fall apart, he started becoming
ill almost on a daily basis. He'd take zofran and be okay for some hours. Then
later after eating something, he'd be sick again. I have believed that the end
of the nightmare he went through prompted all this. It's been so continual that
we thought it might be something other than CVS, like a bacterial infection so
he's on Bactrim right now. But after reading your post, Anne, I'm beginning to
wonder. Yours is the post I've read about non-stop episodes. Conor's also on
so many other meds, it's scary. Lately he's been getting kind of "spacey" hours
before an episode comes on. His speech becomes a little slurred and he gets
weak and wobbly. We even checked his blood glucose level to make sure he wasn't
hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic but it was normal. Anyone else experience this?

I am new to this group and have been so busy trying to control my
daughter's cycle that I have been unable to post anything. She is doing better
now, and I see a subject I have minimal knowledge about: Zofran.
My daughter had been in remission for four years, however, she started
vomiting May 10th and vomited numerous times each day. After two local
admissions, numerous ER visits, a trip to Chicago and one to Indianapolis, we
are finally achieving some success managing this never-ending cycle. My daughter
is 13 yrs old, and started Zofran approximately three weeks ago. Once it is
absorbed into her system, it works for her. she is typically fine for the
following 6-10 hours. She receives almost immediate relief from all symptoms,
including the severe stomach ache, and can even eat once the Zofran has been
absorbed into her system. As soon as the Zofran wears off, however, she begins
to vomit again. I have heard of a lot of children that are taking Zofran for
CVS, and of some who take Zofran with Atavan, or other meds, enhancing the
effect and receiving positive results from the mixture. Our GI doc does not want
to add anything new to her regimen because we have removed some other meds and
want to see if that could have been what was triggering the episodes. I am happy
with the effectiveness of Zofran, I just wish we could stop the cycle
completely.

Not sure on this one.

For my wife, 20-30 min.
> Does it ever stop an episode or does it just lessen the symptoms?
Just lessens the nausea, it's still there though. Like getting a shot
of
morphine for a broken leg -- not normal, but better.
