Hi, I am pretty sure my wife has CVS. She is a type 1 diabetic who
has been diagnosed with gastroparisis. While we know that she does
have gastroparsis, I think she also has CVS. One week a month,
centered around her period, she is hospitalized due to intense
vomiting (6-10 times an hour). The other three weeks she is symptom
free. We have tried many different medicines to attack the vomiting,
and also approached it from the other side and tried to stop her
period. She tried taking birth control pills to stop it, but that did
not work. She is now getting a depo shot every 6 weeks (the average
women gets it every 3 months) but still has occasional spotting during
that week and the vomiting has not slowed down at all.
I am rather angry that her GI dr did not even tell us about CVS. We
also recently drove 6 hours away to work with a gastroparisis
specialist which turned out to be a big bust.
I guess my questions are does anyone else have CVS triggered by their
period (we have linked other causes to it, like infection, but the
period is the one crippling both our lives and our daughters 1 week a
month). Were you able to do anything about it? My wife's ob/gyn
seems rather conservative, and won't really even talk about a
hysterectomy. We have no idea if that would help, but at this point
feel like there is little for us to lose.
Thank you for listening. I was not sure if I was getting too graphic
in my post, but I figure that it is a group that talks about frequent
vomiting, so I am guessing we all left squeamish behind years ago =-).
