Re: [Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome] Newbie here...

I am not a doctor but from what I understand there is no way to know for sure.
I have been told by several drs that there is no test. They have to rule out
everything else and then the CVS becomes the diagnosis. Knowing is much better
than not knowing. I would like to suggest you watch his diet-stay away from
tomatoes, orange juice, etc. It makes matters worse. Ginger tea helps for
some. Kristy <kristysigman769@...> wrote: Hi, everyone.

How can you be for certain that what your child has is cyclic
vomiting?

Here is our story:

My son is 11. Last year, he went through an entire of month of
severe and violent vomiting and stomach aches. It was awful. We took
him back and forth to the Dr at least 2 or 3 times a week. We tried
3 different Dr's. Everyone thought it was just a virus. But, we knew
something was going on with this kid. He was in the ER..oh, I can't
even tell you how many times.

Finally, I chose to go to a pediatrician instead of a family
physcian (we are in a rural area so there isn't much to choose from
other than your local family Dr). She referred him to a gastro,
which took like for ever to get him in to it seems. When we went, he
started vomiting up blood. So, she admitted him to the Children's
Hospital in St. Louis.

They did every test known to man on this poor kid. Can you imagine
lying in a MRI machine and vomiting at the same time? Poor thing.

Finally, they said it sounded like cyclic vomiting, but that it was
unusual because he went for a whole month vomiting. He was there for
a week and finally got better and was sent home. His gastro
prescribed Zantac.

He hasn't really had a vomiting eposide like that since. This was
back in May of last year. He does vomit occasionally, but nothing to
that degree and it doesn't disrupt his life.

He does have on the other hand what he calls a lot of *acid* in the
back of his mouth. He says the Zantac doesn't really help, but we
are on medicaid and that is all they will pay for or so the Dr says.

Any clue to as if this is what my son might have? I keep hoping if
we can get past this month we will be ok and it isn't cyclic
vomiting.

Kristy
