Tibetan Monk to disclose China's Human Rights Abuses in Tibet
Talk in Bristol
The Better Food Company, The Bristol Proving House, Sevier
Street, St. Werburghs, Bristol BS2 9QS
Wednesday 7th March 2007
18.30
Tibetan monk and human rights defender, Dewatsang Sangye, will speak
on China's appalling torture of Tibetan political prisoners.
Sangye worked underground, passing on money to former political
prisoners for whom it is often impossible to obtain work after
leaving prison due to continuing harassment from the Chinese
authorities. His work put him at great risk of imprisonment himself
and he was eventually forced to flee into exile in fear of his
safety.(2)
"Sangye's talk will focus on the desperate reality of life for
dissidents in Tibet and China. This is the dark underbelly of life in
modern China and very much not what China wants the world to know in
the run up to the Beijing Olympics in 2008" said Matt Whitticase of
Free Tibet Campaign.
The talk is part of a wider speaker tour of the UK organised by Free
Tibet Campaign. Sangye will be meeting government officials,
religious leaders and speaking in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, London and
Northampton as well as to student groups at the University of Essex
and the London School of
Economics.
