My name is Li-Chen Lin but I go by Julie. I am a doctoral student at the University of Texas at Austin, who is currently working with Dr. Eun-Ok Im on a pilot study on needs for help and attitudes toward Internet cancer support groups among diverse ethnic groups. For this study, we plan to recruit research participants using the Internet. Therefore, we would like to post an announcement of our study through your website in order to recruit potential research participants. A participant will receive a 10 dollars gift certificate for completing the Internet survey (https://buda.nur.utexas.edu/PCAN/). Eun-Ok Im, MPH, PhD, FAAN, School of Nursing, The University of Texas at Austin and her colleagues are conducting an online study to determine reliability and validity of an instrument measuring cancer patientsˇ¦ needs, the Cancer Needs Questionnaire-Short Form (CNQ-SF), and to determine feasibility/usability of the online forum topics on needs for help and attitudes toward Internet Cancer Support Groups. In the study, a web-based survey and an online forum will be used to collect this information conducted to get information on cancer patientsˇ¦ experience during the disease process.
You are being asked to participate in this study because you have been identified as a cancer patient more than 18 years old who can read and write English and whose self-reported ethnic identity is Hispanic, non-Hispanic (N-H) White, N-H African American, or N-H Asian. About 100 cancer patients will be recruited for the Internet survey (Group 1), and 5 self-reported experts in oncology nursing will be recruited for an expert panel (Group 2).
 
Your involvement will be:
If you are in Group 1, your involvement in the study will consist of the following: (a) about 30 minutes are usually needed to complete the Internet survey; and (b) online forums will be conducted with the 12 topics for 1 month, should you agree to participate in and are selected for the additional online forum discussion.
If you are in Group 2, your involvement in the study will be about 10-20 minutes of the review of a questionnaire and 12 online forum topics with related questions, answering two questions about your opinion on the questionnaire and the topics, and providing any feedback/comments related to the questionnaire and the topics.
For Group 1, reimbursement for participation will be made by providing a gift certificate of 10 dollars for completing the Internet survey. If you are in Group 1 and participate in the additional online forum by posting at least two messages per topic, you will be given an additional gift certificate of 50 dollars for completing the additional online forum.

For Group 2, reimbursement for participation will be made by providing a gift certificate of 20 dollars for participating in the study.
