Hi there,
Am new to this group. Have had UC for over 20 years, was diagnosed with I was
25. At that time no one in the family had ever had any problems of this type.
Since that time, out of 21 of us at what I call my level - my siblings and
cousins - 2 have UC, 1 has crohns, 1 had colon cancer, 1 had polyps, there are a
few that refuse to go to the doc and get diagnosed, and probably those that
refuse to talk to me about it. My own 2 olders brothers are the ones who had
the colon cancer and the one who had polyps. Both have had parts of their
colons removed. My cousin with crohns has had her entire colon removed. So,
though i don't know if you can pass it on to your children, we are watching all
of ours very carefully. My niece has been told she doesn't have a problem but
everything she eats goes through her immediately and she on occasion bleeds. I
suggested a different doctor but her husband is in the military so her options
are limited.
I have started a blog about our disease to basically share my story and
information I might find.
http://ucandcrohns.blogspot.com
well, that's my family history on it.

it is my great-aunt on my dad's side. I do think it's hereditary, but I agree
with your doctor - I think the chances for your children would be the same as
anybody. There's really no sure fire way of knowing.

concerned when I had children that I would pass it on to them. I spoke to the GI
at the time and he said that they were at no greater risk than anyone else. Well
my mum has just been diagnosed as having Colitis. Does anyone else here have
Crohn's/Colitis that runs in the family?
