Hi,

Just to let you know that Shauna left yesterday for her honeymoon. We arrived at the airport at 4:00 am for a 6 am flight but by the time my daughter and her husband checked in, it was after 5 am and they still hadn't gone through US customs (she was leaving from Canada) or security. My daughter was having a difficult time waiting in line as her RA was acting up. I spoke to the ticket agent from Air Canada and told them that my daughter was not feeling well due to a medical condition and they were very kind by taking her in a wheel chair (which she wasn't thrilled about) through customs and security and got her on the plane within 20 minutes. I don't think they would have made their flight without Air Canada's help.

At security she was questioned because even though she had a note from her doctor stating that she was bringing medical supplies which included scissors, they wanted to know why did she pack 3 pairs of scissors in her carry on bag (she forgot to transfer the 2 pair to her suitcase). They confiscated 2 pairs and let her take 1 pair on board. She kept the curved Coloplast scissors (which cost $10) and gave away the samples she received from Hollister.

As for ostomy supplies, she was told that she should bring extra supplies as there were no supplies on board and secondly, she may need more supplies than normal due to the heat, swimming etc. Everyone she asked as to how much extra should she bring (3 days? 1 week? ) had a different answer. She finally decided to bring a month's worth of supplies so she wouldn't have to worry about running out of flanges, pouches etc. She also brought 2 pastes, 2 rolls of hytape etc. Besides whatever she doesn't use on board, she could use after her trip. She packed all of her supplies in zip-lock plastic bags to save space and to ensure that they didn't get wet as she carried all her supplies in her flight bag.  She also packed an ice pack that she will use when she goes on excursions to protect her paste and other supplies that could melt.

I hope this advise is useful for anyone who is planning on going on a cruise in the near future.

Regards,
Harold
