Wow, I wish they would have been more thorough with the types of medications they could have given me during my pregnancy. But, I was apparently their first pregnant patient that had such a terrible flare...they needed something to control it ASAP. Unfortunately, it took them WAY too long to realize that prednisone just doesn't work for me. I was in the hospital for a week straight (this was a year after my pregnancy) and they had me on solumedrol 160 mg every six hours - and I was still having diarrhea. They sent me home on 60 mgs (tapered me too fast too) and I was miserable. I remember trying to call my GI office and I couldn't even finish a conversation with the nurse without having to put her on hold to use the restroom. It was finally at that point they decided to put me on the Remicade. And you know what, I had instant results! To think if they'd have tried that when I was pregnant maybe my pregnancy wouldn't have been as difficult.

Yeah, they told me the Remicade is a class B drug. Both my OB/GYN and my Gastrointerologist checked and rechecked into this. I was so shocked when I found out. I am not taking any prednisone with my remicade. He told me no prednisone at all. I took my last infusion yesterday. They told me for some reason no infusions during the third trimester. With my last son, the 9.6lb baby, i didnt know I had crohns disease and i was in the bathroom ALOT. I figured he would be a tiny baby because of me losing nutrients but he was a whopper! He is as healthy as a horse today too. Im sorry about your son though. Did they detect it when you were pregnant rly or was it detected after birth? I hope he is doing ok.

I forgot to reply to the part about Remicade being safe during pregnancy - did they tell you this? I only question it because my youngest son was born with a very rare heart defect (he was the one I was flaring with while pregnant). I was taking Prednisone which they told me was a class B, and Asacol - at that time they didn't have a classification for it but my doc thought it too was a class B. You are lucky to not be on the steroids during your pregnancy, I was on very high doses while I was pregnant and I was absolutely miserable. I was such an emotional mess. I am currently taking Remicade and for the time being absolutely love it.

I dont know if i have told you all, but i am 6 months pregnant. It was a shock that we werent expecting but it is a welcome addition to our family. Let me tell a bit of history with my children. My first son was 7 lbs 6 oz, my second son was 7 lbs 12 oz, and my 3rd son was 9 lbs 6 oz. I developed crohns disease between my 2nd and 3rd son, and the weight difference was huge! Well, now with this baby(it is also a boy) they are watching his size. My original due date was Oct 9, and at 13 weeks, they moved my date up to sept 29. The high risk dr told me today that there is a study of babies born to crohns patients being bigger than normal babies. I hadnt thought about this before but it could be possible. I am not taking any steroids at all. My thyroid however, has messed up big time. Btw, remicade is totally safe during pregnancy! I was so worried about the baby because i found out i was pregnant one week after i had an infusion in february. I was so afraid of this, but remicade is a class B drug. Lomotil, however, is a class c drug and lomotil is like my security blanket. I have been doing well with immodium tho. Anyway, back to the subject, have any of you heard of larger babies being born to crohns patients?
