Hi,
First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone who shared their personal story of strength and courage and triumphs of their own "Crohn's Mt. Everest". Secondly, I would like to thank everyone who sent me their supplies shopping list. Since I am still receiving suggestions, I will wait another week or so before consolidating the suggestions and circulating it to the group.
As for my daughter, she had her operation yesterday morning. The operation started at 7:45 am and was supposed to finish at 1:00 pm but went past 3:30 pm. Despite our repeated concerns we weren't given any updates but were constantly told "not to worry". When the surgery was finished, the doctor told us that the reason why the surgery took so long was that they found a mass of infection that touched a few organs but never showed up on any of the tests. In addition to doing an ileostomy, they had to drain the infection and repair the organs. The good news was that they removed the part of the colon that was infected with Crohn's, all of the other organs are healthy except for the minor damage caused by the infection which will heal in time and the ileostomy can be reversed at a later date.
In short, she has a chance to start a life that she was denied with Crohn's. I am very grateful that the surgery occurred when it did before this infection spread and caused more damage.
I found out today that the hospital is wireless so in a few days when she is better, I will bring her my laptop so that she will be able to communicate with you directly.
Regards,
Harold
