Re: [crohns_n_colitis] Re: help with boosting the immune system

That is an interesting piece Don. We need to get more info on alternative methods to boost the immune system. Is there anyone else who knows other methods of boosting the immune system?

Also can someone suggest where will one get cats claws?

There are a whole lot of things you can do to boost the immune system.
Some of them are easy (take specific vitamins) and some not so easy and
require motivation on your part.

Regular and intense exercise is one of the best things you can possibly
do to boost the immune system. Disregard those ads that say "All you
need is 7 minutes a day"... they're just selling something and are NOT
concerned with your health and 7 minutes is not going to build your
immune system.

Then there are things like Vitamin C. Take large doses of it ... I take
in excess of 10,000 mgs a day. You'll know you've reached yout limit
when you get a diarrhea reaction ... just back off 1,000 mg a day and
you should be fine. Vitamin C won't have other side effects if you take
too much. It's a powerful antioxidant and immune system builder and is
required for many things within your body.

Take glutamine, selenium, magnesium, lipoic acid (ALA), and N-AC which
all work together so the body can create glutathione which is a vital
component to the immune system ... especially for mucous membranes as
found in the digestive system!

Researchers have found that epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg), a compound
found in the tea, is a powerful antioxidant that can even inhibit the
growth of cancer. Green tea is processed differently from other teas in
that the leaves are not allowed to oxidize but instead are steamed.
This process allows the natural ingredients in the leaves to be
preserved. The antioxidant benefit also doesn't seem to be limited to
any one specific type of green tea or any other special process.

Other vitamins and supplements (such as cat's claw for instance) are
all powerful immune system builders. You'll find a lot of information
and studies on the internet that will help you decide what is right for
you. Unfortunately very few doctors take the time to understand how
vitamins and exercise can make a difference .. they are focused on
pills and medicines.
