Hello everyone, I'm George and I was diagnosied with Crohns at age
15 (I'm 30 now). After battling the disease for 10 years I finally
fell victim to surgery. After the removal of 9" and a portion of my
ilium I felt better, well after the long healing process. Then last
summer it happen, I came out of remission. After a few days in the
hospital and lots of prednisone I was again feeling better. Since
then I have been feeling great thanks to the Ramicade and 6-MP.
I decided to join the group to help other deal with the struggles of
crohns. I never had anyone that understood what I was going through.
Oh yeah, everyone felt sorry but its not that same as having someone
that understands. I never let it get me down, I played H.S. football
as a Crohns pt, acted like any other teen did, and I learn fast and
hard I had to learn to live with this. The only time it got me down
was when I truely was unable to move due to pain and even then I
would try not to let the pain stop me. I went on to become an EMT
and did that for 13 years. Now I am a locomotive engineer (drive
trains), I have 4 wonderful kids (2 mine & 2 step). I enjoy
photography, reading, weight lifting, and playing with my kids. My
fiance (wife in 3 weeks) has always been there for me when the
crohns flares up. I also owe many big thanks to Dr. Lebovitz and his
staff for the great care I have been given. They really are a
special group of people.
I hope that I can become the friend I never had that truely
understands crohns. I hope I can aspire other people to not let the
disease get them down.
