Thanks for your replies they were really helpful . I am sure my doctor
said that the treatment would be 5 ASA medication, but I am still
waiting for the colonoscopy and will know for sure after that.

I know in Britain they don't put you to sleep for the colonoscopy
(stiff British upper lip and things), but they will give you sedation,
but some people I know who have had one were not even offered this.

I am in remission at the moment so as things are back to normal (or as
normal as they are going to be), so I suppose that is why the thought
of constant medication worries me. If the disease was really bad at
the moment I probably would just be glad to be on medication.

Thanks for your help it is reasuring to know that there are other
