I am a 41 year old male and I have had UC since 1987. For much of the
time I have been on and off prednisolone in varying dosages, as well
as Asacol.

I also just been diagnosed with severe Osteoporosis, ie depletion of
bone material. My doctor suggests that this has probably been caused
by the steroids, in combination with poor mineral absorbtion because
of the UC.

Obviously this has caused me concern and I guess I am anxious about
the long-term prospects for my health. Anyway, at least they picked
up the osteoporosis and I am now on treatment for that as well.

I just wanted to suggest that if anyone reading this has had U/c or
Chrohns for any length of time, it may be worth your while having a
bone density scan in order to pick any potential problems, and thus
being in a better position to combat them for the future.
