Re: [crohns_n_colitis] Prednisone side effects...

HI Aimee,
Welcome, wow what a high dose.  I hope your feeling better, and things are on the upswing for you.
I had the same thing happen when I first was on prednisone.  The rash I got was caused from a sun sensitivity due to the prednisone, at least thats the diagnosis I was given. Mine went away once I was off the pred & I still have a hard time in the sun when I'm on it.
Use lots of sunscreen to any exposed areas and that should help some.  Cortisone cream may help as well, but best for the doc to prescribe, as it could be from something else.
Dont you just love prednisone and all it's wonderful side effects, but at least they fade and eventually they never show up again (if you take it long enough lol).
Hope the rash goes away soon.  Good luck with the doc.  Have a great day.

Subject: [crohns_n_colitis] Prednisone side effects...

Hi all,

I'm relatively new to this group - so I apologize in advance if this
topic has been discussed... but I'm wondering if anyone else has had
something like this happen while on prednisone...

A little history - I have UC, dx about 5 years ago.  This past May, I
had an "attack", spent a week in the hospital.  When I got out, I was
on 90 mg oral prednisone.  I'm down to 30 mg now, but in addition to
all the "usual" side effects (wt gain, moodiness, rounding of face,
etc) I think I have developed a skin problem.  I have a rash type
thing going on my skin since mid-June - not itchy, not painful - just
there... but it only appears where I have had sun exposure.  There
has been nothing new in my diet or in soaps/lotions I use... and this
rash only occurs where I have tanned (hands, arms, legs), could it be
due to the prednisone?  I usually put sun block on my face and neck,
so these areas haven't been effected.  The only thing different is
that I spent a few weeks in southern California (I live in upstate
NY) - but I've been back home now for well over a month.  The rash
doesn't tan, so it appears as white bumps on my skin.

I have another app't with my doc on Friday, so I'll ask him about it,
but sometimes I have to pin him down to get him to answer my
questions...

Any and all thoughts/ideas are appreciated!
Thanks!
Aimee

I occasionally get a rash on just my lower arms, and I've figured it's from my arms being in the sun a few minutes when I take the dog out. I'm never in the...
