I have a patient with recalcitrant esophageal spasms. They range from
mild to debilitating with symptoms of diffuse chest pain and sometimes
difficulty swallowing. It is exacerbated by exertion, cold
temperatures, emotional stress and quick changes of position
(especially bending over). The patient has received some relief after
chiropractic adjustments but the symptoms invariably return. There
seems to be some connection to hiatal hernia type symptoms as well as
mid-thoracic pain (due to DDD). Symptoms went away for 3 months but
recently returned and now make it hard for the patient to do even mild
exercise because of the pain. It does not seem to be heart related
(though the symptoms might at first appear to be angina).
If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. This
has become very frustrating and disabling for the patient.
Thanks everyone for your help.
Sincerely,
Ty Cobb, DC
