I haven't been about 2 wear bras since I got Costo nearly 8 years ago and I
was given anti anxiety meds by my
Doctor but only after one day of them, I thought I was going nuts, I had so
many side effects. I have tension in my body from the pain and I have
found that it is helps to take magnesium for this as it relaxes muscle
tension. Stress
Can make the pain worse from Costo. I think it has something to do with all
the nerve endings in our ribcage being
Inflamed. Hope this helps.

Subject: [costochondritis] I am hoping someone will reply to my question?
I am just wondering if anyone else finds it difficult/uncomfortable to
wear a bra because of the costo?
Also, since I noticed a lot of people on here also take anxiety meds, I am
wondering if it helps with the costo or is it just because costo drives US
crazy?
Any responses would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wendy,
Thank you so very much for responding, it was very helpful to hear about why the
anxiety meds are given to costo patients. I have never taken them but I do take
vitamins to help with anxiety. I am happy that you mentioned the magnesium
because I do happen to have calcium-magnesium because I was told it would help
with pain. Also, I haven't been wearing a bra since Jan [as long as I don't have
to] because I find that it does trigger the costo. So I was just wondering if
anyone else had the same problem with the bra. SO again, your advice/info was
very helpful. I really appreciate your response. Thank you so much!

Regarding vitamins and supplements, if you can get your hands
on an article in the July/August 2008 publication of Practical Pain
Management, there's a superb article called "Vitamin D for Chronic
Pain." According to the article, Vit D3 is safe for people other than
those who have pre-existing excessive levels of calcium and/or
people who form kidney stones or other calcifications.
The recommended daily dose is 2000IU of D3, bringing total
supplementation intake to 2000-2800 IU/day (that includes other
D intake from food). In cases of neuralgia, improvement was seen
in 3 months in some patients, but muscle pain may require 6 months,
and muscle weakness and fatigue might require even longer periods
of time. The article says Vit. D is well tolerated even in higher doses
like 10,000 IU/day. My doctor tells me to take at least 2000/day,
and I've been doing this for about 2 months. Another doctor re-
commended supplement for me is fish oil.

Hi Carol,
Thanks for responding. Have you noticed if the vitamiin D has been helping with
your pain? And is it going to work for inflammation since costo is inflammation
of the rib cartilage? I sm just curious if you think it is working since you
have been taking it for a few months. If so, I will probably consider it. Thanks
so much!

Lacy:
Yes, I'm quite sure the article addressed inflammatory conditions, and
stated that those, too, have been helped with the Vit. D3, but it has
to be D3, the reason right now escapes me. Is it helping me?, - that's
what I've been trying to figure out! It seems that when I stopped taking
it cause I went off all my vitamins/supplements cause of a severe
case of diverticulitis I'm just getting over, I wondered if the pain was
worse. I can't give you a definite yes or no, cause I'm dealing with
lots of stuff right now, in fact just got home from the E.R. I would
encourage you to try it, at least visit with your doctor about it. There
is lots of info. on the net., and if you could get ahold of that magazine,
great info there. There's a 99.9% chance it won't hurt you, and it's
natural, and not another medication!
Good luck!

Carol,
I am so sorry you are going through a lot of stuff right now. I hope you are ok
since you just got back from the ER. I will pray for you to feel better. I am
going to look into the D3. I will also try to find the magazine article, I think
it would be something interesting to read. I know it's hard to tell if something
is working or not, especially with vitamins, since they are supplements, because
sometimes it can just be a mental thing where we think they are working. But I
believe in the power of vitamins, I take a handful myself and I don't think it
can hurt anything especially since it can't be any worse then popping
perscription pills. I know that certain forms of a certain vitamin, such as D3
or B12, work better for certain things, so I will look into D3 specifically.
Again, thank you so very much for responding to me. It is truly helpful. I hope
you feel better!
