I am very confused as to how to pick a rhinoplasty surgoen after serveral
appointments. Is it best to go to an ENT with plastic surgery certifcaation, a
facial reconstructive surgeon (I hav trauma to the nose) or an aesthetic plastic
surgeon? Since their specialties vary so widely, I am confused. They all want
to do the surgery, then I find they really specialize in breast surgery or
something else. I'm in Virginia. If anyone can offer advice, I'd appreciate
it.

I have a hole from a huge mole that was removed. I prefer the hole actually...
the mole was so big and ugly. The only reason that I have a hole is because the
plan to shave it off flat had a complication and the darn thing wouldn't not
stop bleeding. A hyfrecator was used to stop the bleeding and that makes the
wound sink.

No big deal though... I'm going to get it punched out (when I get time) and one
stitch is used to close the hole. If you can see anything then I'll have a
dermabrasion. If anything, I expect to have a minor blemish on my skin when I'm
done. Why wouldn't your derm suggest this?

Do not attempt to fill the hole with juvaderm. The hole is scar tissue and not
as elastic as normal skin. What will happen is that juvaderm will get pushed
out to the surrounding tissue and you will get a donut effect; the hole will
appear deeper.

Just punch the hole. Its no big deal.

Hi there. I was just wondering if anyone could help. In december I had 3 moles
removed from my face and each one left behind a hole that is very noticable.
ANybody know what I might be able to do to cover it? Makeup seems to just sink
into the holes. Maybe Botox or Juvaderm? The dermatologist wanted me to go
through a year microdermabrasion. To me that seems like a waste of time and I
cried and left the derm office. I have tried the at home microderm sets &
acnefree's acne divit filler with no change. At this point I figure I am scared
for life like this. I have had a hard time dealing with it too.

I'm so sorry.

Maybe injectable fillers could help. There are a number of artificial
fillers, and
today they even can use your own fat.

If it's any consolation, most people usually are less aware of our
physical defects
than we are ourselves.

That said, I think you can find a solution. ~MJ

Hi Margaret, I almost had rhinoplasty last year! I got cold feet and cancelled
just 4 days before the operation. I am v scared of general anaethesia.
I am from London and I believe had found one of the best and most expensive
surgeons but can't advise for the ones in NYC. He wanted something like £7.500
plus visits £180 for 30min, plus coast of tests before the op and medication
after the op. I am thinking of doing it this summer but maybe he has put his
prices up.
I would be interested to find out how you are getting on. Mary.

Not to be a killjoy to all of the wonderful surgeries that have been had, but I
would encourage those considering 2nd breast surgeries to read my previous
posts, just for your education. My results were horrible and disfiguring.
Please ask your doctor all the right questions, including what your risks are.
If you're told "none", then find a different doctor. I am only 42 and have had
a hole in my right breast 1 1/2" deep. I have no more areola or nipple on the
right and the left will be left severly scared. Research your doctor, even if
you have used him/her before. Ask questions . . . lots of them! Ask what could
go wrong and, if it does, what your doctor's availability is to you.

I would post pictures of my experience, but none of you would want to eat for
weeks. I am a non-smoker, a runner and in fantastic health. This should not
have happened to me. I am now on a wound vac and healing well, but will never
be the same and am looking at areola prosthesis. If a doctor said to you, "I'll
give you your $6k surgery for free but there's a 95% chance you'll lose your
nipples" you'd all run. Just PLEASE be very careful, especially with subsequent
surgeries. Learn about pedicles and how your breasts will be cut. Learn and
ask what your doctor will do if something goes wrong on the operating table.
There are four concrete steps your doctor can do to save your breasts. Don't
assume you'll be okay. I don't mean to scare anyone, just really to encourage
education.

said that I had "adequate volume" to achieve good results w/out implants. I was
uncomfortable with having foreign objects in my body simply for reasons of
vanity. If it was a knee replacement or something like that no question give me
the foreign object, but with implants this is not the case. I was a very flat F
cup and now I am a perky D so to me implants would have been excessive for my
5'5" 150 lb frame. I really think more women should think about what their
bodies "should" look like as opposed to their "ideal." Many of us think that
"bigger is better" but really if you look unnatural have you really improved how
you look?

Katie - I had lost a lot of weight as a result of Gastric Bypass Surgery in
2003. I was going to deal with the excess skin, and just move on and enjoy
life....however, about 15 months ago I started getting topical skin infections
on the excess skin that was just horrific. I decided to start documenting the
skin infections by taking pictures. I mean I would have pus, blood, and nasty
looking sores (almost like bed sores). Finally after being in and out of my
family doctor (where of course they documented everything), I went to see a PS.
She looked at me in January and took pictures of my area, where there was still
and infection & I gave her my photo's (where she said that was the best thing
for me to have done), and submitted it to my insurance and two months later I
has an approval. I got really lucky. My advice is document document
document...my insurance is United Healthcare.

I always wondered about this one too. We are so blessed in this country to have
brilliant doctors, latest technology, and state of the art facilities in which
medicine is practiced. Therefore I couldn't imagine even entertaining the idea
of having surgery abroad. I know that cost is a big concern that makes this idea
VERY appealing, but really... should cost be a factor when considering surgery?

After I had my daughter, my breasts went from 2 D's to 1 A and 1 D. Boy did I
feel silly. So, I had an implant put into the small and (surprisingly) an
implant + lift to the larger one. It actually worked, and I loved being big
breasted. All the male attention didn't hurt. Just recently I've noticed a trend
towards smaller breasts, and since I've had mine for 20 yrs now (which means
it's time to change them out) I thought I'd go a little smaller because it will
give me a chance to wear tops I've always avoided. That being said, my 'man
friend' does NOT want them smaller. He says boobs can NEVER be too big and lots
of men feel that way. So enjoy your DD's because I guarantee they make lots of
people's day!

I am naturally a DD and don't want to be "bigger"
just more firm hence the augmentation--
I would even consider going smaller --
Not sure they can do a
reduction-lift-augmentation-

I have a consultation this week-
I agree the oversize breast aren't for me either.
I am just used to being a DD.

So it is possible to have an augmentation and still remain the same size? =)

Did they consider what you had done a reduction?
If you stayed the same size and had an augmentation?

I think that's great! I definitely don't want to be bigger-
Just firmer and lifted-
I don't think I have ever gone with out a bra and would like to be able to on
occasion-

I'm actually afraid to go much smaller than a D because of all of my clothes!

- Word of caution: one of my girlfriends went a little over the top with it and
now her boobs are beyond perky. They're positively angry looking. Something to
consider. She likes them. I find them frightening. They resemble built in
flotation devices, similar to what Pam Anderson sports these days.

Ok. I have to know. How did you get it covered? If u don't think that's any of
my business, I totally understand. I was hoping to argue the route that the scar
tissue from my c-section was painful and causing problems ...which is actually
true. In any case, I'm happy it worked out so well for you. You must feel like a

Now for my own inappropriate questions (lol):
1. Did you get the tummy tuck that includes lipo and pulling the back area
around to include in the tuck? What about the new belly button?  I want to do it
so much, but am scared to death of the scarring. Its great that your's sounds
minimal.

--> I only got a tummy tuck to remove excess skin, however she also did some
oulling down on the stomach as well - I kinda had two rolls - she did great. I
was very scared, and to be honest there is one gal on here who posted pictured
and stuff and it freaked me out - DO NOT LOOK AT PICTURES...everyone is
different - I had a great experience and no pain. My scarring looks to be
minimal and to fade over time....I thought I would have a zipper look stomach
however I was wrong...it looks good...but i did rest a lot!

2. Really nosy: what did it cost? If you don't feel comfortable answering that,
no prob. I'm rude to even ask.

--> My insurance covered it. I didnt pay anything - it was considered medically
necessary....

3. What state did you have the procedure done? I only ask as that can sometimes
impact the cost significantly.

--> Pennsylvania

In truth, smaller more natural looking breasts seem to be more 'in' now, which
is why I'm seriously considering a reduction. I will however be including a lift
and smaller implants. Shorter nails are more 'in' now too. Go figure.

naturally proportioned. Plus I really don't want to get suffocated....

I had a breast lift w/out augmentation. My surgeon gave me the option, but said
that I had "adequate volume" to achieve good results w/out implants. I was
uncomfortable with having foreign objects in my body simply for reasons of
vanity. If it was a knee replacement or something like that no question give me
the foreign object, but with implants this is not the case. I was a very flat F
cup and now I am a perky D so to me implants would have been excessive for my
5'5" 150 lb frame. I really think more women should think about what their
bodies "should" look like as opposed to their "ideal." Many of us think that
"bigger is better" but really if you look unnatural have you really improved how
you look?

I am considering having my breasts lifted, but the pictures I see all look
better with augmentation.

Here's my question, is it possible to stay the same size (maybe even 1 size
smaller I am a DD and would be okay staying a DD or D.)
With a lift and augmentation?
Would that be a Reduction-Lift-Augmentation?

I want the "perkiness" of the augmentation.

I have a consultation scheduled with a local PS on the 21st. How many PS should

--> Pennsylvania

I had a lift and augmentation and was thrilled with the results. I also had no
prob remaining a D cup. The lift will help the perkiness, but probably not in
the way you mean. Without implants, I think the lift alone won't give you the
look you're probably wanting therefore, I'd go for both. Word of caution: one of
my girlfriends went a little over the top with it and now her boobs are beyond
perky. They're positively angry looking. Something to consider. She likes them.
I find them frightening. They resemble built in flotation devices, similar to
what Pam Anderson sports these days.

I have some questions some of u may have the answers to.
1. I'm looking for a major overhaul (mid-life crisis) and I keep reading about
these out of the country travel/surgery deals that sound pretty good. Anyone
here try this route? If so, how did it go?
2. I had a recent consult w/ a surgeon who informed me I needed my eyes done
(which had not even occurred to me). I'm afraid to have this done as the eye
jobs I've seen look so obvious to me, and I don't want my tune ups to
drastically change my looks.
3. Last question: has anyone here had a necklift? I was told that a necklift
involves a whole facelift, and I'm REALLY not ready for that.
Would love to hear from you guys!

When I had a C section, I had to wait 8 wks. I'm not sure if there's a similar
wait time, but that seems like a logical # to me based on the incision (sp?).
I'd ask the doc. It won't be the first time that question has popped up I'm
sure.

When are you allowed to resume intimacy after a tummy tuck.

I guess I felt embarassed to ask my surgeon, and I am sure she dont care.....

On a side note - this Thursday will be 4 weeks since my surgery & OMG I am doing
so well....I went back to a 1 1/2 weeks after surgery, and am moving around well
and just am having great results. I look at my scar and its a just a small red
line....beautiful! I feel so blessed....I am still swollen, but that is
expected & tomorrow is my follow up and I think the binder gets to come
off....woo hoo!

Her surgical center is in her office. It's actually very nice and clean. She
is a good surgeon but knows nothing about wound care and let me go almost a
month full of dead tissue. I have found a PS that will see me on an emergency
basis tomorrow afteroon, for which I am so very grateful. From what I told him
on the phone, I am now at least one year before any reconstruction can begin. I
also have a large seroma tha the CAT scan found. I don't know what he'll do but
it will be a God send to be somewhere where someone can address the wound and
surgery as well as surgical repair. I will never have my nipples again and
about 1/4 of the areola on the left with none on the right. I have spent so
many days in tears. I feel like this is all my fault since I "elected" to do
this. My mind tells me though that my surgeon made a tremendous mistake. My
husband said that I came out of surgery completely blue. I should have been
taken to an emergency room, but we trusted the PS that all would be okay.
Please be wise with yourself. It's your life and your body and, in the end, the
only one that has anything to truely lose is you.

BTW, the PS I used is fully accredited and, I believe, in her early 40's. She
was in way over her head when things didn't go accoring to plan.

My surgery was April 8th. It was my second life and my first major lift. I am
42, a non smoker, a runner and very healthy. I have been married for 22 year

During my surgery, the surgeon lost blood flow to my areolas. I was never told

Yes, we have a lot of swelling after the surgery and it lasts for a while. I
will be 6 months out this saturday and still have some on my tummy. Keep wearing
your binder as tight as you can most of the time.

Nathalie

When I had major gallbladder surgery a number of years ago it took about 2+
months before my appetite returned to anything close to "normal."

----------
Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.

Thanks Nathalie. I have been wearing my binder. I can't have it too tight, or I
can't breathe deep enough. The Lortab is making me see double, so today I am
going to try a half one instead. Is it normal to have such a poor appetite? The
surgeon checked on me yesterday and I told him my legs looked like bread dough
they were so swollen. He said that was from all the lipo fluid. Did you have
that? It's really uncomfortable.
Jane
