I was very scared too...I have panic disorder and had a massive panic attack the
morning of the surgery, but I was determined to go through with it
To heck with vanity..so what if you are doing it for that reason? This is for
YOU and like you, having that hanging apron was a blow to my self esteem..I was
always concerned about my big gut...even exercising did nothing to get rid of it
and after 9 years of thinking about it,I decided it was MY time...
I too had a BR about 14 years ago and DO not regret that! As for the TT..the
recovering isn't as hard as they say..Have lots of support, take your meds and
REST....eat in bed, watch tv whatever but STAY IN BED...but also important, try
and walk around a little bit to get your circulation going,it does speed up
healing
If I had known ahead of time,I would have asked for a Lazy boy style recliner to
sleep in,,,it would have made life much easier,so if you have one great,,,if you
can borrow one..do so.
Keep a pillow under your knees at night for sleeping,to give your tummy support
and wear the binder ALL THE TIME.
The drains were the worst part,,but trust me it was worth it.It took away alot
of fluid, and the alternative is a huge needle to drain the fluid manually, which
I am sure you wont want. You get use to have your drains in...but it does make
sleeping on your side uncomfortable, but its a necessary evil.
Change the dressings daily and have sponge baths, use a special body powder or
lotion to make you feel good and fresh.
Get the pre-meds if offered to you, even to calm you...
Think postive thoughts!

two,my life moves"

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'm concerned about
this surgery. I had a BR and things went fine 4 years ago. I'm getting nervous
but I really can't stand the issue of the wrinkled, hanging skin. I know it's
vanity but it really, really beats up my self esteem. My husband wants me to do
whatever I want to but has also said he loves me just the way I am. Men don't
seem to get this wrinkly when they lose weight! He lost 20 pounds and his tummy
is smooth LOL! Very annoying.
Again, thanks for being so kind and talking about your surgery. It helped me a
lot. I'm glad your recovery is going well. Not liking the news about the
drains though. I know your doc was wise to do that but the thought of 2 weeks
of drains is tough.
