Growing up my mother use to use an ironing comb every now and then on my hair.
I would say it would be once every 2 months. We (sisters) were all
under 16 at the time. I think it may have started when I was 7 years
old. The straight hairstyle lasted about 2 days or a week if I was
lucky :-) but that's because she never make it bone straight.

I think using a flatiron/hotcomb is a personal decision, and I agree
with Freida - don't perm her hair - let your daughter as an adult
make that decision herself.
