One more thought on what to do with the ends of twists (one of our favorite
styles) or braids, since elastics/bands at the end can cause breakage, you
might consider wrapping the ends instead around a barrette or even better, a
snap (like a very small barrette but is roundish and only has a single
post--sometimes looks like a bead hanging at the end). I'll attach a pic of
black snaps with white beads hanging at the ends of cornrowed plaits.
You just wrap the end a few times around the hings of the snap or barrette
and then close it tight. Snaps stay on really well for weeks.
However, I do agree with the advice to still twist/braid them to as far as
you can to the end. It helps keep the ends from locking and being hard to
comb out later, preventing breakage.
You can find snaps at dollar stores and on eBay sometimes.
