what your going to have to do is grip her hair very tight and braid very close
together so it can be nice and neat

I am doing cornrows and 2-strand flat twists on my daughter but they don't
come out as neat as I'd like.
I think the problem is that I lift the row up too high from the scalp when
going to grab the next bit of hair to add
and then have to cinch it up again and then it starts to look sloppy.
Any advice for how to position your hands to keep that row close to the head
the whole time
without accidentally lifting it up?

This is how you do cornrows step-by-step
1. Part the hair to the desired legnth of the braid. For example, if
you only want the braid to go to the middle of the scalp, then part
all the way back to the middle.
2. Part again on the left or right side (whichever you are
comfortable with) to fit how big you want the braid. SO if you want
a small braid, the second part wont be to far from the first.
3. Pin down the left and right with a clip to make sure no stray
hairs get into the braid.
4. At the top where the part starts, divide the piece into 3
strands.
5. Take the strand to the left and take it under the middle strand
while adding a small amount of hair to the strand. Now the strand
the was on the left should be in the middle.
6. Apply step 5 to the right strand and continue to cross under and
pick up.
I hope that helped. Once you get the basic hang of it, practice it
and it will be prefected over time. Good luck.
Sincerely,
Jerell
