Hey! Just wanted to introduce myself. I am pretty new to the online group
thing but ready to jump right in...
My name is Brenda and I was diagnosed with Menieres Disease about a month ago.
I have to say that first attack was probably the scariest experience I have ever
had. I was at work (luckily in a hospital) and everything started to spin. Then
came the sweating from head to toe and finally the never ending vomiting. I
didn't know what was going on with me. I thought things like "is this what a
heart attack feels like?" "am I going to die?" I really just didn't have a clue
as to why the spinning wouldn't stop. After being in the ER for over 5 hours,
they sent me home with meds and an appointment with an ENT doctor. You know the
rest after that.
I am 30 years old, married and have twin babies that will be turning 1 year next
month. I have many questions and fears and am hoping that finding a community
of people that have the same disease I have will help.
Brenda - welcome to the group and it is nice to meet you. I think you are very lucky to have been diagnosed so quickly. I had symptoms for over two and half years and saw every specialist that my PCP could think of and finally got diagnosed, because i thought i had a ear infection that wouldn't go away, not knowing it was the fullness that is caused by Menieres. i got diagnosed on a fluck, and now i can't find a specialist, mine is retiring. Anyway i am 34 I was diagnosed last march and have learned so much from this wonderful group of people. Welcome!

Hi Brenda! I'm Gwen...i agree on that early diagnosis thing... I was symptomatic for five years before getting my diagnosis (which just came this past april) I'm 27 now but my first attack was in 2004 and lasted a whole week! i actually had a question for the group that I keep forgetting to ask but this reminded me... I don't have any kids of my own right now but i do want to have one (sometime in the next two or three years) so yeah, no rush or anything but I was wondering if anyone knew anything about MM and pregnancy... i really want kids but I don't want to risk myself or a child by getting pregnant if having MM/ a bad attack could be harmful...thoughts? feelings?
thanks!

I'm new to the list, but not to the forum. I'm Bastet in the forum, but I like the email list too. :)
I had my first vertigo attack this morning in 3 months. :( I'm on JOH and I think it was stress and hormones that caused it. I guess one attack in 4 months isn't too bad. But it's another day I had to take from work.

My name is Jennifer, I am single, 32 and was diagnosed with MM as a child.
I am very glad you got a proper diagnosis so quickly, that is wonderful news. Where are you from? Did your doctor put you on any medications for the MM?
You are blessed to have such a wonderful family and that you work in a hospital. That first attack couldn't have hit in a more proper place. They are scary for sure.
Welcome and tell us more about you.
Sincerely,
Jennifer and Hattie (my Hearing Dog from Dogs for the Deaf)

Hi and welcome. I am 41 years old and have had MM going on 17 years now. You will find a wealth of information and support from this group. You mentioned you have 1 year old twins. Are you married, or do you have someone to help you?

Thank you for that information! I will def. ask the doc.
Also, since I am moving next month I will need to find a doc out in Nevada.
What are some things I should look for when finding the right doc to help me
with this? Are there certain questions I should ask or something like that?
Thanks again!

Just ask if he specializes in MM and do your research on the internet.

Welcome! You will be glad to have this site and all of us who know exactly what you are going through! I feel fortunate that I didn't develop MM until I was older although had symptoms probably my whole life. I had my first bad "spell" in 1992 when I was 56. I was working at the time and realize now I had no business driving but I had no choice. Episodes have come and gone during the years and I was even into denial that maybe it had gone away when lo and behold in Jan of this year it returned with a vengeance. This web site has done so much for me in helping me understand this disease. So many helpful tips, suggestions, etc from people who are living with it. I learned that weather (barometric change) really does a number on me and thank God the weather has leveled off and I am able to resume early morning walking again. Allergies, stress, salt, caffeine, chocolate are also bogeymen! I need to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, try to get a good night's sleep and eat on a regular basis (if the nausea is gone). I have finally learned the meaning of One Day At A Time. I know upon awakening if it is going to be a productive day or one where I sit in bed and just stare into space like a big bird! I am heavily into gratitude for the good days and that I don't have something "worser". Again, welcome! Love and hugs, Lou (California)

Welcome to the group!!! I can certainly relate to the fears you experienced with your first attack----I went through the same thing!!! I was diagnosed a year ago, and all I can do is assure you it does and will get better. Mine started getting worse a month after my first attack---really scarey!!! But the with the help of
a very good ENT doc and figuring out the right medications, mine has gotten MUCH better. I just had to learn to accept and work with it---not against it. I found stress made it a lot worse. This group (although I don't respond very often but read it almost everyday) has helped me more then they will ever know. It's a really good place to let out your stress and anger because everyone here understands!!! Again, welcome to the group and I hope you have many dizzy free days to come.
