Hi Susan,
I was diagnosed with MM a year ago, and yes being scared and depressed does seem to go along with it in the beginning. My doctor even had to put me on Valium in the beginning! (I've been off it now since January and doing great!) It just takes time for yor mind and body to adjust. Your doctor will give you the right meds to take, but it isn't an over night fix---it takes time. Also it helped me to learn as much as I could about the disease. The people on the copinglist are fantastic too on helping you with any questions and problems you may have, so ask away. I found one thing that has really helped me too is to try to avoid stressing out over the disease, and work with it not fight it emotionally. I still have ocassional vertigo, but not as often and not for as many hours as I did in the beginning. I'm actually starting to live a pretty normal life now (or as my husband says, "Isn't normal just a setting on the dryer!") LOL  I can actually even make plans a week ahead of time, and I was able to fly to Minnesota to be with my dad for Father's Day with no problems. My hearing has decreased some, but I haven't lost it! So YES it does and will get better!!! Just hang in there kid and give it time!!!
Hugs,
Sherrie from Texas
