Hello,
My mother called last evening and reported that my grandfather was much more aware of his surroundings (which was an improvement). She asked him if he knew who she was and he didn't say "yes or no" but smiled. Either way it was a response.
They have an on duty nurse assigned to his room because when he has his spells of disorientation he tends to thrash around, tries to get out of bed and/or pulls on his IV's. He still has not really eaten and the doctor would like him to start...or he will need a feeding tube put in (sigh). When my mother told him he needed to eat or he would end up with a feeding tube...he gave my mom a look and lifted his leg to kick her in the butt (playfully). So THAT was good, that's some of my pap coming back!
His vitals are looking better and when my mother shaved him yesterday, he was stretching his neck and things...so he was atleast aware he was getting his face/neck shaved. Where as before, he wasn't responsive at all. They even had him sitting up in a chair for a little while, that's a first.
We will know more today when his regular doctor is back on duty. They never did the scope of his heart valve on Friday, his situation at that time was too precarious to attempt the procedure.
Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. I will keep you posted, my family appreciates it, myself included.
Sincerely,
Jen and Family
