Do you have an idea for a southside community-based program? Are you
pondering where to get the funding for this project? Now, you can turn
your idea into reality.
The Town of Madison and South Metropolitan Planning Council encourage
you to apply for a grant as part of our Community Services
Initiatives-"Hands Across South Madison." The goal of this joint
venture is to support projects that fund or increase access to
community-based programs, services, and activities that benefit
residents of the South Metropolitan area.
Last year, this successful collaboration awarded $33,230 for seven
projects that benefited Southside residents. The grant awards ranged
from $1,000 to $6,000. An amount approximating $35,000 will be
available for allocation this year; however, this is dependent on
successful fundraising efforts.
Specifically the goals for this grant program are:
1. Youth Development: Youth development includes, but is not
limited to, projects that support recreation, mentoring, education, and
job training and placement.
2. Strengthen Organizations: Strengthening organizations focuses
on building organizational ability and supporting organizational growth.
Building organizational ability includes, but is not limited to, board
training, organizational workshops, conferences, educational classes,
and child-care and/or transportation to increase participation in
meetings. Supporting organizational growth includes, but is not limited
to, projects that work to strengthen volunteer involvement and those
that build relationships with community organizations and businesses.
3. Build Community: Community building includes, but is not
limited to, projects that provide an opportunity to network, build
connections within and/or between neighborhoods, plan and/or implement
special events, and other programs that involve all elements of the
community (e.g. cultures, age groups, people with disabilities).
Of primary interest are the provision of services to children and youth
that offer them opportunities for constructive engagement, particularly
during the summer months. A very strong secondary interest is
cooperative ventures, especially those that team relatively new, but
promising, organizations with more experienced agencies. Joint
applications are, therefore, strongly encouraged.
The Town/SMPC encourages everyone-volunteer organizations, non-profits,
neighborhood associations, and community members-to apply. We welcome
and encourage questions throughout the application process. Completed
grant proposals are due Monday, March 15, 2004 by 4:30 p.m.
