Dear All-
Can anyone help here with small scale things for Off the Square Club's
efforts to make a little garden space.
We are tapped out in these areas right now.
Sorry for the short notice but I have been out and just getting to this.
Please reply directly to MIKALA STEENHOLDT.
Thanks!

Subject: homeless shelter plant donation
Mr. Joe Mathers,
I was referred to you by Nathan from Troy Gardens. I'm in a Social Work
class on homelessness and for our service learning project for the
class, my twin sister and I volunteer at the Off the Square Club in
Madison. The Off the Square Club is a day shelter for individuals with a
diagnosed mental illness and who are also suffering with drug/alcohol
abuse. To boost motivation and to help the club members take pride in
their shelter, Rachael and I decided that it would be beneficial if we
organized a "clean up day" where members and staff clean up the
shelter's backyard and then celebrate with a cookout.
The Off the Square club's backyard has a small basketball court, a few
plants, a broken picnic table, over-grown trees, thin grass with weeds,
etc. Pretty much everything in the backyard is overgrown, dying, or
broken. As typical of shelters, The Off the Square Club does not have
money to fund a clean up day so I asked my Professor if she knew of any
organization that could help us out and she referred me to Troy Gardens
who referred us to you. I was wondering if Community Action Coalition
had any extra flowers, grass, small gardening tools, outside seating,
etc. to donate to us for our clean up day scheduled tenatively for this
Saturday, May 12th. Please let me know if this is possible and thank you
for your consideration.
Best,
Mikala Steenholdt
