> APRIL 19, 2007 - Thursday 6:00PM-8:30PM
> Seed Distribution AND A Celebration to Support Our School and
Community Gardening Programs, Bunky's Cafe, 2827 Atwood, Madison, WI.

> For reservations contact 204-7004. Our special evening will feature

year in our Seed-to-Supper and Renewing America's Food Traditions (RAFT)
Projects. Pick up seeds for your garden! Please help us support our

> PROJECT BACKGROUND
> We began our project by asking these questions. 1. Do you have special
memories of Italian heirloom fruits and vegetables grown by your family
and friends? 2. Have you grown these varieties? 3. Would you like to
grow and sample vegetables from your favorite regions in Italy and to
share this vegetable heritage with future generations? The rest is
history!
>
> We provide SOME SEEDS AND MAYBE A FEW PLANTS and ask that you share
your memories, growing tips and a few of your vegetables. We'll capture
our "taste memories" through photos and interviews. We will record our
results, impressions, vegetable uses (recipes), preservation tips and
even garden designs for future generations.
>
> We are seeking volunteers to grow a vegetable or two like, Radicchio
di Mantova, Italian Torpedo onions (Rossa di Milano), (Costoluto
Genovese) tomatoes and others. We'll continue to share our successes and
feature the fruits of our labor at "special tasting" events.
>
> Our project began in conjunction with our Sister City Madison,
Wisconsin-Mantova, Italy partnership and has expanded over the years.
Members from Slow Food Madison, the Italian American Women's Club,
Italian Workingmen's Club, Madison-Mantova Sister City Partnership,
Culinary History Enthusiasts of Wisconsin, CIAO, Community Food and
Gardening Network have grown our vegetables. Again, this year we'll
have Slow Food Sister City Seed-to-Supper demonstration garden at the
University of Wisconsin West Madison Research Station. We hope to
continue our project at Community and school gardens, home gardens and
container plantings around the state. We will be distributing seeds at
community meetings and events throughout the spring.
>
> Our small demonstration gardens will feature seasonal favorites and
will be located throughout the city including the planters at
neighborhood restaurants. Our calendar includes several special events
for spring, summer and fall: perhaps a container planting workshop,
revitalize our Seed to Supper Garden Tour and Tasting when our summer
veggies are at their prime, a vegetable preservation workshop and a
harvest dinner. For information contact kboldt@...,
susan.boldt@... or call Susan at 608 219-8846.
