Office Manager/Membership Coordinator
Position Description
The Friends of Troy Gardens is a non-profit organization responsible for the development, management, and stewardship of Troy Gardens, a 31-acre project on the Northside of Madison, Wisconsin. Located on a bus stop in a diverse mixed-income neighborhood, Troy Gardens incorporates affordable housing with four acres of community gardens, a large children’s garden, a five-acre organic CSA farm, and restored prairie and woodlands. The Friends of Troy Gardens manages the land and runs educational programs focused on environmental literacy and leadership.
The mission of the Friends of Troy Gardens is to inspire and teach people to love, care for, and steward the land. The organization promotes community-based decision-making, participation, and leadership by a wide diversity of people in our land management and educational programs. The Friends of Troy Gardens is committed to a locally based, sustainable food system and to healthy eating.
Position Responsibilities:
- Membership Coordination
- Coordinate membership growth through membership recruitment and retention
- Coordinate an annual special appeal
- Manage the membership database
- Coordinate membership growth through membership recruitment and retention
· Volunteer Coordination
o Coordinate volunteer program including volunteer recruitment and recognition
- Communications
- Assist with newsletters and monthly e-newsletters
- Respond to questions from gardeners and members
- Maintain and update website
- Update organizational brochures and materials
- Assist with community outreach efforts
· Special Events
o Assist with annual summer festival planning and sponsorship
· Other general non profit administrative and office management tasks
o Including assistance with merchandise sales
- Be an active member of the Friends of Troy Gardens staff and governance structure and support general organizational events and activities
Desired Qualifications:
· Strong organizational and communication skills
· Experience with non-profit organizations and administration
· Experience working with diverse populations
· Computer skills, including Microsoft outlook, word, excel, access and database management
· Gardening knowledge
Compensation: Part-time flexible position (15-20 hours per week). Salary commensurate with experience.
