Mosaic Stepping Stones
Local artists Marcia Yapp, Megan Cain and Dana Slowiak will lead children, adults and seniors through a multi-step workshop to create mosaic art pieces for the land. The mosaic pieces will remain on the land for current and future generations to enjoy. Participants must attend both sessions. Cost: free; but space is limited.

Digital Photography
Participants will use the landscape of Troy Gardens as both backdrop and subject, learning to create memorable photography with their digital cameras. This workshop, led by Amy Martin, will offer amateur photographers an opportunity to develop new arts skills, and get the most out of their digital camera technology. Cost: $25. Space is limited.

West African Drumming
Learn to play traditional rhythms from Guinea, West Africa, with Shawn Barry. Shawn has played and studied for 11 years and traveled to Guinea twice to study. Shawn teaches class in Madison and is a member of the performance group, WADOMA (West African Dance of Madison). Bring your djembe or dunun drums and prepare to have fun and learn to play music. Beekeeping
Bees are important garden pollinators. They also provide wax and honey. Join Claire Strader, Troy Community Farm Manager, for two classes on the basics of backyard beekeeping. Come to Olbrich to learn about bees and see beekeeping equipment up close. For a hands-on experience, visit the hives at Troy Gardens, where you’ll see the real thing and be rewarded with a taste of honey straight from the comb! Cost: $13 per session

Savor the Summer Festival
Troy Gardens’ 2nd annual Savor the Summer Festival will be held on August 12, 2006 from 10am-4pm. Music from a West African Drum and Dance Ensemble, an Irish rock band, and a Bluegrass band will highlight the main stage. Cooking demonstrations, featuring huitlacoche and African American and Hmong cuisine, will exhibit throughout the day, as well as urban farm activities for kids, and garden-related workshops for people of all ages. Picnic lunches fresh from the farm will be available all day. Entrance to the festival is free.
Troy Gardens is a unique urban development integrating open space, agriculture, and affordable housing on the Northside of Madison, Wisconsin. Proceeds from the festival allow the Friends of Troy Gardens to offer youth
