MAY 6: Kick Off event for VOLUNTEER STEWARDS (9am-noon)
Stewards commit to six hours a month of volunteer work in return for
free classes in natural areas management. Our first event will be a
Bird Walk with a talk about Bird Identification.
Other classes this season include:
Woodland Plant Id,
Soil-What Mysteries Lie Beneath Us?,
Wildcrafting with Herbs,
Prairie Plant Id,
Insect Identification,
Solving the Challenges of Prairie Restoration,
Creating Rain Gardens,
Woodland Management,
Nightime on the Land-Sounds on the land and the stars above, and
Winter Tree and Plant Identification.
MAY 13: Kick Off event for Volunteer PICNIC NIGHTS(4-7pm)
Once a month we invite community members to assist us with the
maintenance of our educational gardens. After putting in some volunteer
effort, we will have a class on native and herbal plants use followed
by a community potluck. You can even stay out and camp under the stars!
Our first class will be “Grilling with Garlic Mustard and Creating Wild
Salads”
Classes later this season include:
Creating Berry Wines
Food and Medicine From the Prairie
Creating Natural Dyes
Summer in Winter: Drying Herbs and Growing Them Indoors

Troy Gardens is a 31 acre plot of land on the Northside of Madison
which serves as an alternative to urban development. It contains
natural areas, an organic farm, community gardens, a kids’ garden, and
co-housing.
