RE: [communityfoodandgardennetwork] September CFGN meeting

Sounds like you've done a great job with your community food and garden network.  All the things you are doing are so enriching for the people involved and the community.  Keep up the good job!

Community Food and Garden Network

September meeting scheduled for Wed. the 10th from 3:30-5:00

At St. Mark’s Church

Located at 605 Spruce St.

Julia Weaver will talk about her PromiseKids garden program.

This is a afterschool and summer program building faith and community through the arts. The summer program is built around their organic garden. They use veggies and herbs from their garden for meals and grow flowers for use in the sanctuary and for visits to shut-ins. They have built a wonderful composting system. They worked with Centro Hispano and the Rock River Coalition to create a rain garden as an environmental project. Next to their organic garden they are working towards a woodland area with native plants. Their program is about service and their care for their property reflects that.

The meeting will also feature Dan Durica from Troy Community Gardens giving a lesson in seed saving techniques. Now is a perfect time to start planning for next year by using the seeds from the veggies you grew this year.

As always there will be time for networking and program updates.

We also encourage you to bring goods from the garden to share.

Let’s make this cook/craft book a fundraising reality for the Christmas season. Please bring in a recipe to share.

If you have any question or need directions please call CAC at 246-4730 ext. 238. We also greatly appreciate RSVP!
