Dear All-
This is something you may want to express your opinions on regarding local food
and county government.

Subject: Urgent request for action - dane local food council
Urgent Request for Action:
This Thursday evening, October 6, the Dane County Board of Supervisors will
take up Resolution 90, establishing a Food Council in Dane County. We need
all of you to email and call County Board Supervisors and urge them to
support the Resolution. If you can attend the County Board meeting, it will
be held Thursday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 201 in the City County
Building. Please let me know if you're coming.
Please send any responses regarding this email to: rsimpson@...
We know there is an substitute amendment to change the original resolution
to weaken it by limiting it one year and changing the make-up of the
appointment process. We need to make sure Supervisors support the original
resolution. We have a couple of unknown votes and without their support, the
Resolution vote could be postponed or killed. At the end of this email is
the list of Supervisors to contact. Their phone numbers and email addresses
can be found at http://www.co.dane.wi.us/coboard/supervisors.asp.
Points to make on your call:
Support the original Resolution 90 because a Dane County Food Council will--
-- help create economic opportunities for farmers and food processors,
address hunger and obesity concerns, and link consumers and institutions
with food produced in our County, improving the quality of life for all
County residents.
-- strengthen collaborations between various levels of governments -- city,
county, region and state -- and the critical role food plays to our economy,
health, and environment.
-- encourage collaboration and communication between government, producers,
processors, eaters and various organizations and institutions working on
food issues.
-- impact government purchasing of local foods, the Central Ag Food Facility
and a Public Market, "entrepreneurial agriculture" and other innovative
farmland preservation initiatives and local foods to improve health and
nutrition.
-- keep local food issues on the agenda of the county government and address
the many ways the food system impacts the county, from the production of
food through the food chain to the eventual disposal of food waste.
Dane County would be first county in the state to establish a food council,
making it a leader of a growing movement to provide a central place to
coordinate and improve efforts to address local and regional food issues. We
need your help to make it happen. Please call, write or come to the County
Board meeting Thursday night. Thank you.
