Troy Gardens’ Workshop
Tasting the legacy of your garden – Seed Saving
Date: Saturday, August 13th, 4 pm - 5:30 pm
Location: Troy Community Gardens-Meet at front Troy sign
Instructor: Dan Durica, Troy Community Garden Manager
Cost: $10 FTG members, $15 non-members
Old timers say vegetables don’t taste like they used to, and there’s a reason they don’t. Our grocery store shelves are evidence of the monocultures that have taken over our food system. But some people and seed companies are keeping alive the thousands of varieties handed down and improved upon over millennia. In this workshop, we’ll explore plants in the Troy seed saving and heirloom tomato demo plots and find out how you can save the seeds of many garden vegetables and keep the heritage and flavor of heirloom plants alive in your own garden and on your table. It’s not as hard as you may think--after all, people have been doing it for thousands of years, and they didn’t even have cellphones.
