Minutes for the Kids Gardening and Nutrition Conference

 Wed. July 20

In attendance Lisa Johnson, Carla Wuennenburg, Ashleigh Ross

What-

-         The purpose of the conference would be to continue growing and strengthening in school, community and daycare gardens for children of all ages, and network gardens and garden leaders with area resources.

-         Our audience will be Madison area garden leaders and young gardeners

-         We would like the youngsters to be involved by presenting on their gardens and helping to cook a meal

-         We would like to show the whole gardening cycle from funding-building-curriculum-nutrition

When-

-         We would like to have this conference in early October, possibly all day on a Saturday

How-

-         We would like to invite as collaborators; Wisconsin Homegrown Lunch Program, UW- Nutrition Experts, experienced teachers, kids to present their garden programs, Amy Mienen, FEEDS project, Troy Community Garden, Madison Metro School District, Rick Brooks

-         We will need some funds, possible grants that focus on gardening and nutrition.  We are not sure how much

-         We may need to charge a small fee for attendance; hopefully this will be under $20.

Where-

-         We could possibly have the conference at Bayview, the facility has two large rooms, a kitchen, garden and games and toys for youngsters

-         We expect anywhere from 10-40 people for this event

Questions-

-Who else would like to be involved in the planning of this conference?

- Is it possible to get children from the garden programs to attend?

- Which Sat. would work better for everyone, the 8th or the 15th?

- Does anyone have any funds available for a conference like this?
