Dear All-

Here is a chance to apply for help from an beginning engineering class if you
have a "handyperson" type project (moving plant arrays for hort therapy,
revolving planters, or some other conundrum, etc.,)that needs a little extra
design/engineering. You will of course need to be available some to work with
the students a bit. See below.

Good luck!

Subject: Project Ideas For InterEng 160, Fall 2005

Faculty from the College of Engineering at the UW-Madison, have contacted
the Morgridge Center to assist them in identifying possible service projects
for the service-learning course, InterEng 160, Introduction to Design, this
fall. This course introduces students to some basic engineering principle,
allows them to explore different engineering principles and introduces them
to problem solving through a design project.

Students enrolled in this course are freshman engineers, so the projects you
might have cannot be too complex or technically demanding. The ideal project
proposals you might submit should be "handy man" type projects; projects
that lend themselves to a solution that can be designed and built or
implemented by the student in one semester (16 weeks)AND they should meet a
real need you have! The affiliation of the client requesting the project
isn't important, BUT the client must be willing to interact with the
students to define the problem and be available to answer questions that
might arise. Each project selected will have a $300 budget. If a project
requires more financial support, some clients have assisted in providing
that support; but that has not been the norm.

If your organization has submitted a project proposal in the past that has
not been selected, I encourage you to re-submit that proposal!

YOUR PROJECT PROPOSALS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED VIA EMAIL TO PROFESSOR RICHARD
STRAUB AT rjstraub@...; questions may be directed to him at that email
address or by calling 262-2757.

PROJECT PROPOSALS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED BEFORE JULY 28 AND NO LATER THAN
AUGUST 1 TO BE CONSIDERED.

A Project Proposal Form is attached to this email.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO RETURN THE COMPLETED FORM DIRECTLY TO PROF. STRAUB AT
rjstraub@...

Thanks,

Randy Wallar
