Community Gardeners' Potluck
Monday Oct. 25th
4:00pm-8:00pm
Olbrich Botanical Gardens
You are invited to an evening of skill-sharing, entertainment and good food.
*Children are welcome to attend and we will have special activities for them.
This year's potluck will feature gardener-led skill-sharing sessions!
Our sessions will include:
*The Horticulture Program at Oak Hill Correctional Facility
Last spring Jason Garlynd and his program donated hundreds of vegetable, herb and flower starts to community gardens and gardens that work with children, youth, seniors and people with disabilities. He will give an overview of his program and field questions.
*Outta the Box No-work gardening
Just say “No” to tillers, plows, herbicides, hoeing, weeding and even most watering in creating a thriving, vibrant “No Work” (actually “low maintenance” might be a better term) organic garden for yourself.
*Hmong Cooking and Gardening
We will have gardeners from the Hmong community talk about their gardens such as weeding techniques, edible weeds and exotic plants. They will also demonstrate the preparation of a couple of there most popular dishes- Pickled Mustard Greens and Hmong Salsa.
*Kids Gardening Programs
Children from some of our Community Gardens will talk about their programs and share their stories.
In addition to the skill-sharing workshops we will have entertainment and plenty of delicious home-grown food.
The skill-sharing session will be from 4:30-6:10, and the potluck will be from 6:20-7:30.
So bring the whole family down for a celebration of gardens and community~and make new friends!
