Another thought on this is to call over to
the Urban Open Space Foundation and ask if they have anything going that has a
strong youth planning element. They have links in

The Urban Open Space Foundation is dedicated to
a world in which open space systems are recognized as essential to the quality
and health of city living. We work with communities to create and revitalize
public spaces. We're committed to helping them achieve their full natural,
cultural, and economic potential through quality open space. (See also:
Community Open Space Partnership.)
Also, what about Audubon and the other bigger
enviro-orgs as they must know that youth are the future and be doing something
along those lines (if not here then maybe at Schlitz Audubon Center in Milwaukee.)
Curious to see the list you come up with
sometime.

This is a notice to all of our CAC
contacts that our internet provider has added "backend security"
in response to the masses of EMAIL VIRUSES. If you reply
or send an email to our cacscw.org domain and it comes back to
you, it is because your Internet Provider does not have a REVERSE ENTRY
established on their server. If you get a bounce back message you
need to forward it to your internal IT staff person so s/he can follow this

Thank you.

Subject:
[communityfoodandgardennetwork] Research project on community programs for
youth
Hi CFGN-ers!
I am writing you wearing my grad student hat to
request advice. Sam Dennis and I are in the
beginning
stages of selecting case studies for a study on
youth
development within community programs. Do any
programs
spring to mind?
Specifically, we are looking for programs that are
-in
-include youth ages 12-18
-involve youth in community planning or
environmental
care projects
Projects may be aimed at improving the physical
condition of the local community, for example:
gardening projects, park development projects,
community mapping, or open space planning; or
caring
for the local environment, for example: monitoring
stream health, mapping urban forests, active
stewardship of natural areas.
Programs may be sponsored by school, scouting,
faith-based, tribal, or other groups in rural,
urban,
or suburban settings.
At the end of our study, we will provide selected
programs with an independent program assessment,
which
will be useful in self-evaluation and
grantwriting.
Please let me know if you know of any interesting
programs that might fit these criteria.
Thanks for
your help!
