Carolyn,<br><br>I am glad to see you made it here
and "Welcome to the club", as Joe Walsh would say, he
he! I look forward to your posts. By the way I am
Crowning Moments, AKA Doula Nurse, Jamistlc, and
4birthing. Have you visited my web site yet? IT IS AT
<a href=HTTP://GEOCITIES.COM/4BIRTHING
target=new>HTTP://GEOCITIES.COM/4BIRTHING</a> sorry my caps just locked and I am
too lazy to
retype the sentence, he he! Again I am glad you made it
here!<br><br>Peace,<br>Have a Blessed Day,<br>Jami
Hello all,<br>I am Carolyn and DoulaNurse invited
me NurseDoula to joint the club. I found him on
Google.com. I wrote and he told me about this club. I am a
new BSN graduate and on my way to midwifery. I love
being with birthing women and helping people find their
way through the miriad of birth choices available to
women today. I have 6 children. 2 foster children ..boy
and girl.. and 4 lovely boys I birthed. I love them
all and am trully blessed. I am married and will
begin a new job in a community hospital L&D very soon.
I am looking for ways to stay spiritually connected
to the birth process in a clinical setting. I look
forward to reading your posts and learning more about all
of you and your interests and
callings.<br>Regards,<br>Carolyn
Hi Ya,<br><br>My Puter is up and running (after 2
months almost of being down or limited to cut and
paste), so it is time for me to catch it, LOL! Look mom I
can spell/write with all the letters, spaces, and
make paragraphs, he he! I have over 700 e mails to
read and reply to. No I am still in Ohio and working
for the Nursing Agency doing staffing yuc. But it is
better than actually working on staff in the particular
institution or nursing home. I am not one who likes working
with the elderly. I do not have the patience to do it
day in and day out! Also they do not recover and
present with the same C.C./ complications,
yuc!<br><br>For those of you who were invited to join this group
about a month ago it was me, I found you in other
clubs/groups for Doulas, midwifes, or womens health/family
centered concerned individuals! I am so glad you joined
and hope this club remains active. I have some
information that I will soon post about National Womens
Health issues and an upcoming conference here in central
Ohio! I will get them on the board ASAP after I get the
info togather. Again I welcome everyone to our club!
Ii hope to hear from you all very
soon!<br><br>Peace,<br>Have a Blessed Day,<br>Jami
Hi,<br> Thanks for the intro. I am 49 years
old,have 3 children 22,20,17.I have been an OB/GYN nurse
for 28 years. I agree with you, breastfeeding is
best.I nursed my own.I encourage my patients to
breastfeed for at least one year, two if they want.I know you
are excited to become a midwife. I would be
interested to hear what the program is like. In my years as
a nurse I have delivered quite a few
babies.Delivering was not part of our job but you know some babies
just don't wait for the doctor!!After all these years
I still feel priveledged to attend a birth. Its such
a wonderful experience. Good luck with your
studies,I hope to chat with you soon.
Hi. I agree a lot! Breastffeding should be very strongly encouraged. I really
don't know any Doulas or Midwives who feel differently. Welcome to the
list!<br>Karen
I was invited to join this group, but I don't know why or by whom. Anyone here
invite me? I post over at parentsplace -- maybe that's
where...<br><br>Thanks,<br><br>Anne
Hi, my name as u can c is Selina. I am 34 years
young,I live in England and have a lovely partner and 4
lovely children, 3 boys, Ashleigh (9), Charlie (6),
Cameron (3), and a girl Jade (13 mnths). I am about to
begin my 3 year Midifery training in Septamber. Here in
England it is very different to the States. I am a firm
believer in breastfeeding and think more should be done to
encourage mothers to breastfeed their children and for
longer. I am sorry if everyone does not agree with me but
it is something I feel very strongly about. I hope
to be able to give something to this group and I am
sure I will get lots from it. I hope to chat to u all
in time and feel free to send me a message when I am
online.<br>Love Selina xxx

if i'm not mistaken, California's state
insurance, MediCal, covers midwifes. they covered the
birthing center that I was going to deliver at, but ended
up having to use a med doc because of complications.
they were going to cover it, though. it was on their
list.<br><br>just general info :)
Dear Friends, <br>Background: Very simply,
insurance companies only reimburse for procedures for which
there is a defined code. No code, no coverage or
reimbursement. Under the present system there are no codes for
Complementary and Alternative <br>Medicine (CAM) procedures,
including midwifery procedures. However, a New Mexico
company named Alternative Link
(<a href=http://www.alternativelink.com/
target=new>http://www.alternativelink.com/</a>) has <br>created standardized
codes for
Complementary and Alternative Medicine and nursing (including
midwifery), and is in the process of trying to get the
Federal Government to adopt this set of codes, so that
insurance can cover these important health care options.
The midwifery codes have been developed with input
from many midwives across the country, including
direct entry midwives from MANA. <br><br>From Connie
Koshewa <connie@...> at Alternative
Link: <br>Your comments during this process can make
the difference between a lack of access to insurance
coverage for CAM and nursing or mandated billing support
for licensed alternative medicine and independent
nursing services. <br>The Department of Health and Human
Services has named standard coding for conventional
medicine claims. However, there are no named procedure
codes to describe complementary and alternative
medicine or nursing services. Alternative Link has the
only developed code set before the Department of
Health and Human Services that support CAM and nursing
services. The only <br>coding source that describes
conventional medical treatments is CPT, owned and developed by
the American Medical Association. By October of 2002,
all insurance carriers, Medicare and Medicaid will
only accept claims coded with <br>standard code sets.
The Department of Health and Human Services
recognizes that the named code sets do not meet the needs of
all health care providers. <br><br>Mail Comments to:

Hi,<br>I am glad to meet you and anyone else who
supports women during pregnancy and childbirth! Welcome to
the club! I hope we can make this a good club for
everyone, as of yet we number 32 members. With that in mind
you can promote and guide this club to encourage,
educate and expand the practice of Midwifery and it's
sister Doula's.
I am a Childbirth Doula, Lactation Consultant,
CBE, and a Nurse Educator in Columbus, Ohio! I have
found that of the many roles I have had in my life,
these are the ones that raise my pulse without
increasing my blood pressure! I would love the oppurtunity
to discuss these passions with you. My Crowning
Moments Childbirth Services has it's web site at
<a href=http://www.geocities.com/4birthing/crowning.html
target=new>http://www.geocities.com/4birthing/crowning.html</a> and my Home Page
is at
<a href=http://www.geocities.com/4birthing
target=new>http://www.geocities.com/4birthing</a> it has many of the same
internally linked pages
as the Doula site. It has features that are not on
my Doula site. I specialize in VBAC, teens, and
other high risk clients. I have a interest in herbs,
Alternative Healthcare, Women's Health and specifically
"Vulvadynia", I have several pages dedicated to this subject. I
believe in a parents ability to shape a childs
personality before the birth process and have pages dedicated
to "Pre_natal Birth Psychology. Regardless of what
your interest is in Women's Health, I probably have a
page about it and a search engine to find the
information on my site, I suggest if you visit my site that
you use the site map button on the search engine to
find the information.

Hi! <br>I'm new to the club. I just joined today.
I'm a doula in North-Central Indiana. I'm DONA
certified. I just had baby #3 in Feb, so I'm not working
much at the present. <br>I went to the DONA conference
in San Diego last summer. It was wonderful. But I'm
not going to get to go this year because of the baby
and finances. I do highly reccomend it though. It's
too bad I can't go when it's close and I flew accross
the country to go last year. Oh well.<br>I look
forward to getting to know you
all.<br>Blessings,<br>Angela
Peace, i am new as well. I am Essential Nature, i live in California and want
