As a Nurse who works for a Nursing agency I already have many of
these traits in my practice and lifestyle. I have 2 sons the youngest
is 15 and the other is an adult so those questions do not apply! I
did not see anything in there about what a Doula actually does for
the client ie support and skills or background. I think i have that
too. IMHO
I was in attendance for both my sons births (Medically Managed with
the works, epi, episi, Pit and a internal fetal monitor, NPO and all
that!:() I was my wifes sole support person for those births which we
went into without any training or knowledge base (We trusted the
medical est.) I have been a Nurse for over 13 years and I have
supported several women both through e mails and in person in the
birthing room to have the birth that empowered them. I know that my
clients and those who have used my services were not subjected to the
Medical protocols that my wife had, heck we labored in a labor room
and delivered in a delivery room, very bright, sterile and cold,
yuck! thats not the way to be born IMHO! So Do I Have What it Takes?
I think so!
