No more "accidents", or discharges at inopportune times.
I irrigate every morning and hardly ever pass anything for 24 hours.
I use the Convatec Irrigation kit. You can see it at www.convatec.com, go to ostomy supplies and click on accessories.
I will also check the pricing for you, I am very fortunate, I am a U.S. military veteran so my supplies are free.

Hi Jon,
I am 63 a permanent which like you was a result of diverticulitis. I must have been careless since I was hospitalized a few times and medication got the system going but three years back, I was being treated for several weeks but they finally decided on surgery. When they tried to reconnect, the surgeon was more concerned about my ventral hernia and the reconnection didn't work out. That's life.
I was wondering about the whole procedure of irrigation. Is there anywhere I can find more info regarding this? Or do I have to get a doctor to teach
me?
Regarding wafers, I used Convatec before but switched to Almarys... I am in the Philippines and I was just wondering if the prices in the US (is that where you're at?) would be any cheaper. The cost of medicines here is atrocious and I get the Almarys wafers at 260 pesos (about $6) and the pouch at about $2. Convatec's prices would be just about the same.
Kind Regards,
Vic

I live in Westland, MI. I just had my colostomy reversed back on June 16. I have finally started to get back towards normal again. I guess I can now give my colostomy nurse (Visinting Nurse Association) a call, and give her my extra supplies to give to someone who really needs them, unless I find someone in the area that can use them themselves. I know I had insurance problems here and there, and had to beg for supplies on a couple occasions.
It is so good to no longer call myself a "S--tbagger". real relief, though I had problems with my blood thickness (INR) for a good long time after the surgery. Finally, I am back to my old level of Coumadin, showing me my body is functioning again. Still experience a little pain in my abdominal area, but I seem to be getting better on a daily basis.
I had a preference for the
Convatec New Image 2 piece bags. They were by far the most convenient, and most comfortable that I had tried over my 11 months of experience. Just be sure to never use any moisturizers, etc on your skin when you wear them. I tried it one time, and the bag didnt even last overnight, before leaking. Otherwise, I was able to wear them for as much as 2 weeks on occasion. I did try the use of Hydrogen Peroxide when I had a rash, and that seemed to do the trick. Otherwise, just KEEP IT CLEAN.
Just thought I would say hello to my fellow Colostomy suffers in Michigan. Good luck with your situations, and may one day, you join the Ex's out here. Contact me if you like. I would tell you what I do know.

My husband was diagnosed a few months ago with Rectal Cancer and has been since told that he will have
surgery and have a colostomy for the rest of his life. We are very curious to see what one looks like and maybe even meet someone in person that has one and talk about things they have been able to do or not do. He knows this needs to be done but is very nervous about the hole deal. I ofcourse will do whatever it takes to keep him with me and our boys. I just wondered if you could give us some insight on the hole thing.

I am 51 and have had mine for 18 months also for Colorectal Cancer. Nowhere near Michigan but there are other resources. You should also join the UOAA forums.
Hopefully you can link up with Jon but if not find out from your surgeon who your ET nurse is (specializes in ostomies) and they may be able to hook you up with a local support group. Where I am they have a visiting program where otomates will visit with you to help you adjust.
I am also an irrigator and because of that my life is much simplier.
What the end result is actually depends a lot on the surgeon. You can see some examples on line with the educational videos from Hollister, Coloplast and Conveltec. Those videos will be very helpful in educating you and I recommend you look at those.
You said your diagnoses was a few months ago, I presume you are undergoing Chemo and radiation. I hope you are not delaying the surgury do to any fear of the result. You need to get that out of you as soon as possible. I was 5 weeks from diagnosis to surgury and was only delayed while they considered Chemo and Radiation. I was lucky to be an early stage where that was not necessary.
Good luck
Mike

In an online CV you need to add different keywords from the start to the end.
This is because when you add your CV to a job search engine, recruiters normally
type in keywords to choose the candidate. Also try to list your major skills in
the beginning of the CV so it would get noticed. Simple words like excellent,
experienced, fast, skilled etc give extra spices to even boring CV so use them
wisely.
