It is strange that there are so many women asking questions for their husbands isn't it.
I agree with Peter, men, stop being sissy's about the colostomy, you have it, deal with it, it's better than "pushing up daisies"!
I've had mine for 2 years, (permanent) and yes it sucks, but I AM ALIVE!
Without it I would be missing my oldest daughters wedding later this year, and I am so looking forward to walking her down the aisle.
I also would have missed my youngest graduate from college last year.
I'm so proud of her, and I was able to tell her so.
Did my life change, absolutely!
Did it change for the better, Hell no.
However, it has made me learn to relax, and not to let the little things bother me. It has made me realize that there is alot that is out of my control, and to roll with the punches.
My family says that I am more easy going now, since I have been sick and recovered.
I think that most of you will agree with me that while our ostomies are not a pleasant addition to our lives, they have given us a chance to go on living, and we all need to make the best of it.
My best to all of you.
Jon

Had the reconnection last July/August. Had been in awful pain but was forming small stools - doctors wanted to know that.
I have been told to take a fibre (fiber-US) supplement with at least 2.5l water per day. Drinking a half UK gallon (5 or 6 US pints) takes some doing but well worth it. No pain. No smell. No desperate urgency.
Was also recommended that if I get the attack of the runs, I take a prescription only course of Multivitamins to get back what I have lost but only for a few days after the attack stops.
Other than that, no treatment, no drugs and fighting fit.
I have noticed within this group that it is very often that women are asking questions on behalf of their husbands. Come on men, stop being pussys. Nothing emasculating about a colostomy. After all, you've got it already.
Drink plenty of water, take the fibre, drop the amount of meat (only by a little in my case) eat veg and walk, walk, walk. Work that stuff out of you.
Colostomy makes no life changes and a reversal is even better.
Peter

My hub had reconnection and is having some worries of course. He is
worried that not using the bathroom every day is a problem. What do you
all eat to keep things regular? A lot of stomach hurting on the bottom
and soreness. Is this normal? Do yuo all have this trouble after
resection? He is eating a lot of veggies and things but what else helps
keep no constipation? Carla and Lonnie
