He probably has an incision from just above his belly button to his groin down the center. He will have an incision where they closed the stoma 1/2--2". That will probably have packing in it that you mnay have to pull out. They put a couple sutures in my stoma but took them out when they took packing out. They did not pack it again. That was at day 5. Not sure what packing was. They pulled a bunch of material out of the stoma incision. That was kinda wierd to watch that. They just left it open. I was sitting there getting ready to go home, with my sweat pants down around hips, okkkkkk, now what, lol.? Surgeon said, go home, lol.
I had my origninal surgery because of diverticulitis and colon perfornation. I don't know much about fistulas except that they are an abnormal opening either to the skin or between 2 organs. He may have a
different incision in rectal area???

Hi everyone, I am a nursing student going to do a clinical on a
colostomy reversal. What can I expect to see? I have looked all over my
textbook and the net but have been unable to find much about this. I
know that my patient is a young male that had a colostomy done to allow
a rectal fistula to heal. He is now having the reversal done and I
will be seeing him the day of his surgery. I am interested in know
about what incisions there will be ect. I just want to be prepared.
thanks,
