Re: [colostomy] hello......

Hi Wheatie,
sorry to hear about yoursituation...I know how you feel...I went in for a
laparoscopy and unbeknownst to anyone, the doc. made a hole in my rectum!! I
came home and didn't feel good...the next day I was still not right and went
back to the hospital, where after CAT scans (one involving liquid inserted
rectally (like the barium enema)) they discovered a pretty big hole...I was
in tons of pain by then what with all that stuff floating around inside
me....I was in the hospital for 2 weeks...I was really tired when I came
home too...everything is an effort...but gradually your strength comes
back...do lots of walking...it really helps....I had the colostomy reversal
in December...it's a lot easier than the inital emergency surgery and I was
in hospital for 3 days....it took 10 days for me to have a bowel movement
though and the gas pains were pretty intense for me and I did use vicodin,
but everyone is different. I didn't have the runs, but i couldn't tell the
difference between whether I had to pass gas or I had to have a bowel
movement and so spent a lot of time going back and forth to the bathroom! It
has been a little over 5 months since my reversal and things seem to be
working well...I do seem to get stomach pains more often than I used to and
can't eat smoked or spicy food any more....not sure why that is...I also
still feel bloated....again, not sure why...but I am glad I had the
reversal....it is scary I know, but it was worth it in the end to me....
Hope you get better every day. write any time
Karen
