--Hello, I had an experience like this with my hubby. This was a
surprise to us also. Thought he had kidney stones. But bowel ruptured
and made holes in the large intestine. So as you said they took out
most of the large intestine and almost all of the large bowel. This
happened in March but they were to reconnect in May. But, after 6
days in hospital it ruptured a 2nd time. Two major surgeries in a
week. And then 3 weeks later the incision was busting open with
holes. Had another surgery and had it reopened. Then this week had
double pneumonia and had to have another 2 units of blood. Everytime
he has hospital stay they have to give him blood. We are seeing a GI
dr for this. He has lost 70 lbs since March 15 and been in the
hospital a total of 35 days since then. 17 the first time. I am so
tired of of hospitals. Have to go daily for IV therapy also for 10
days. Let me know how it is with the reconnect. They put his off
until Nov now he is too weak to go through it. Good luck and hope it
all goes well. Carla

of March, didn't even know I was so sick. We were on vacation, had
been for about 5 weeks, had to come home very quickly and I was
rushed to the hospital........at first they told me I might have
cancer, as my symptoms were that I had a blockage in my
intestine..........well, I did and they had to take out 18 inches of
my lg. intestine, and a few inches of my small, leaving me with a
temp. colostomy. I am doing good with it.........but was so week
from staying in the hospital for 3 weeks, I still struggle to get
around. Have no energy at all. While I was in the emergency room,
they did an upper GI with barium and an enema with barium....which
was so bad to have done if it leaks into your insides, my Dr. said
you don't survive that, but he was a miracle worker, and I did ok. I
am having it reversed sometime in Sept. I had such bad experiences
in the hospital, I am not looking forward to this surgery at all.
How did yours go? Did it take you a while to get back normal bowel
function? I have heard you have diarrhea with some reversals, do
you? Thanks, for your help, Wheatie
