Re: supplies not covered

Hi.....I had my colostomy in Jan 05 and I have United Healthcare and
since it was at the first of the year we hadn't received our benifits
booklet and by phone was told they were covered but later found out
that ostomy supplies were not covered under our plan. My advice is
to get whatever information you can and appeal the decision with your
moms insurance company.....which in my case it didn't help...but you
never know what will happen.......ostomy supplies are covered under
Medicare and Medicaid under durable medical equipment but some
insurance companies are still trying to call ostomy
supplies "disposable"..Always refer to the ostomy supplies as an
Ostomy Prosthesis because a Prosthesis replaces a body part which is
what a Colostomy does. If you have any other questions, please feel
free to email me. I feel its a fight that we have to take on with
Insurance Companies for coverage of things that we have to have no
bones about it.
